I am 76 with afib and having trouble tolerating the full dose of edoxaban so am going to ask for half dose even though I don't meet the official criteria. Does that mean I only have half the protection.

Change to half dose edoxaban
Best to coordinate change of dosage with your doctor who is familiar with your case.
Best to also discuss with doctor your kidney blood test ie too efficient (sic) kidneys might clear the protection too quickly.
What do you mean about not tolerating Edoxaban? What's happening? You need to discuss with your Dr,perhaps swop to another AC.
I looked into half-dose apixaban as a possible solution to my brain bleed concerns after pre pAF spontaneous (ie. unexplained) chronic bilateral subdural haematomas, but haven't yet found support for this dosage outside of the NICE criteria you mention.
In fact I found research that indicated that a half-dose presented higher risks than a full dose. In conclusion, low-dose apixaban was associated with a greater risk of stroke/SE and death without a reduction in the bleeding rates. See ...

But do discuss this with your medical team, as there may be other solutions for someone who cannot tolerate DOACs.
PS. Doh! I rushed to reply and missed that your question was edoxaban related. Sorry for that! But my research reference may still be valuable, or not, when you talk to your medical team. Good luck!
I am 79 and asked my GP last year if I could change to a half dose of Apixaban as I only weigh 49 kg and was having spontaneous bruising and digestive problems. She refused but I noticed when I accidentally ran out of Apixaban that I felt much better. So I tried cutting the pills in half which made them stick in my throat, then just took one a day. Finally I confessed to my GP and she agreed to prescribe the half dose.
