Dysopyromide

I am in the UK and have been on Dysopyromide 250mg for around 3 years. It has kept me free of AF however my Pharmacy has been unable to obtain this medication. Is anybody experiencing the same problem? And how have they overcome the issue?

Many thanks

I've been on Disopyramide fir very many years and there have been supply issues particularly in the latter half of 2023 and early 2024. However I have no problems for the past 2 months or so. I suggest you try a different pharmacy who use different wholesalers. Phone around in first instance.

Ps ..just noticed you mentioned 250mg. You may have to have 100mg ....as I do.....and double up etc as I had to do. There are problems with this dosage. Try phoning Neon.....tel no on dosage sheet..... for more info if necessary

Whenever I haven't been able to get the pill needed, I call the company that makes them and ask if there's a problem. They can then tell me which wholesaler has it in stock and then you let your pharmacist know that for them to order.

Thanks Jean will look into that on Monday as I need to sort something out urgently as I’ve been free of AF for nearly 3 years wouldn’t look forward to going in and out of AF every few days again

I was on Disopyramide for almost 20 years and then, last year, it became unobtainable. I personally rang all the pharmacists and then I rang the manufacturer only to be told it was out of production. I contacted my cardiologist and he changed me to Propanafone, which I was very nervous about taking but I need not have worried as all is well. So, my point being, there are alternatives.

Thanks Opal

I have left a message with the Arythmia nurses will mention that when they ring back

I have been having the same problem, finally all of the pharmacies in my area (Wiltshire) are telling me that it is out of stock. Their suggestion, used to be 'shop around' but now, and almost universally they are advising that I book a GP appointment and get an alternative.

I emailed the importers, Neon, and their reply was "This product is out of stock, we do not currently know when it will be back in stock." so I am not optimistic....

Thanks for your reply deeply worrying although a previous reply from Opal suggested there could be an alternative that is worth exploring

I wrote about this very problem a couple of days ago in response to someone else having problems with getting the Retard version. I changed to the 100mg version taking 2 in the morning 1 in the afternoon and 2 at night which worked. I actually reduced down to 300mg/day in the end. I still order the larger amount and stockpile what is left. It's an old drug and sometimes it has production difficulties but so do a lot nowadays. Neon is the supplier in the UK and at the moment supplies are good so chase your pharmacist to get the 100mg version
