bisoprolol side effects
The only answer is to change to a different drug but you would have to very slowly wean off bisoprolol.
Bisoprolol did the same to me - sluggish, breathless and feeling awful. I was changed to Nebivolol and it gave me back a normal (ish) life. Talk to your GP, telling him/her how your quality of life is being impacted.
Yes, check with your pharmacist that you can take 5mg once a day at bedtime. I have done this back in the day with the endorsement of my GP. No problems after that.
That’s a good time to take it John. It will help with sleep. Not a good drug for some of us as side effects can make you sick. For me it lowered blood pressure too much, so l have it as a PIP and it seems to work that way. My AF is progressing so l will probably go on the Nebivolol eventually. Hope you are feeling better now.
Hi Cavalierrubie,
I survived with it from Jan 2010 to about mid 2023 by August 2023 I had to switch to Nebivolol as Bisoprolol was making me feel like the Zombie from the village of the Living Dead. Now of course my new Consultant Cardio guy has me on Sotalol .... he and I meet tomorrow to discuss a few hiccups earlier this week. How about that ..... a Consultant working on a Saturday of the holiday weekend. ( I am of course paying as a private patient ) GP's don't even work during the week much less a Saturday. Have a good weekend.
John
It’s no joke when you feel so ill. I have been there and it is so debilitating. Keep going until you find what suits you. My pharmacist said that a drug should make you feel better, not worse. I don’t tolerate most drugs, which makes it so difficult. I hope you soon get stabilised and feel better so don’t put up with feeling like this and be fobbed off. Only you know how you feel. Hugs.
Hi There
I also take bisoprolol, what side effects are you experiencing? Mine was a heaviness in my chest, almost like I couldn't get enough air, also a general feeling of being switched off. It disappeared on its own after a while.
I was prescribed bisoporol initially and I didn’t tolerate it well but it took some time to see which drug was making me feel like I did as I was put on a few when first diagnosed with AF. Eventually my GP changed it to digoxin which I have tolerated. He started on a low dose to see if I could tolerate it and then increased when he knew I could. I’m on other medications for AF and never felt right since taking them. But I appreciate the potential outcome if I don’t. No one knows other than yourself how you feel. I suffered terribly with sinus issues on bisoporol and very cold extremities which I don’t have now. Bisoporol does not suit everyone even though I believe it’s the first go to by the medics. Wish you luck in trying to find something that suits don’t give up but it can be a long journey.
