I’m on APIXABAN with no effects, however my GP surgery (the pharmacist) has suggested I take a STATIN (Atorvastatin) because of slightly high cholesterol (5.11). I’m good with that esp having had it all explained to me, however, does anyone else take a statin alongside their anticoagulant and if so have you any advice? For example the best time of day to take it? I’d prefer at 9pm with my APIXABAN dose but is it wise to do both at the same time? I suppose I should check that both drugs really are ok with each other too, the pharmacist said so but I like to check independently. Any advice anyone? Thanks in advance.

No interactions between the two drugs and personally I've taking a statin, and an anticoagulant at the same time.

When I was on the cardiac unit last week the cardiologist changed my statin, Simvastatin, to Atorvastatin . He said that there is greatly reduced chance of interaction with other drugs. I also take it at night time along with an anticoagulant.
Unless there are other comorbidities (eg high BP) or other compelling reason for reducing cholesterol, I would decline the statin offer. Your personal cholesterol level, as I understand it, is largely produced by your liver according to what's needed and not principally by your diet ie if you are 5 that is the right level for you.
I have had a level around 7 for 25+ years and 10 years ago my heart & carotid arteries were all clear.
I'm on Apixaban plus Rosuvastatin and have been for years. No obvious interactions. I normally take my Apix at about 10:30pm and was advised to take the statin just before bed.

I take my anti-coagulant (I take Xarelto- I did try Eliquis for a while because it seemed to be the drug of choice, but it gave me heartburn, which the Xarelto never did, so I'm back on Xarelto) with my last meal of the day., early at 5pm. and take my 5mg of Atorvastatin later in the evening.
Hi
The saga of STATINS.
What is your GOOD CHOLESTEROL? Take this figure off the total you give.
Besides that I read a research book which reads NO ONE CAN MEASURE CHOLESTEROL GOOD OR BAD.
5.11 sounds great to me.
I started 10mg Atorvastatin and my big toe (which has had 2 injuries on it) throbbed.
So I go on and off them just to please GP who have varying opinions. It earns the country lots of money as they recruit another patient.
Read carefully and thoroughly and make your own decision.
You must stop them taking Pavolid the anti dote for COVID.
It also interfers with my Synthroid tabs I take daily for Ca Thyroidectomy. It read not to take more than 20mg.

I take Edoxaban and Atorvastatin - no side effects. Happy with the advice to take statin.
I take apixaban twice a day and 40 mg. Atorvastatin in the evening. Not noticed any ill effects although some people are statin intolerant. Don't see any harm in taking them together - life's too short for perpetual clock watching.
I take my anticoagulant (Xarelto) at dinnertime -- needs to be with food; and take my Atorvastatin at 8 p.m. along with my 2nd dose Metoprolol. Atorvastatin makes me sleepy so it has that added benefit of getting a good night's sleep.
That’s always a bonus - does it make you sleepy during the day?
Well I only have taken it at night so I wouldn't know about daytime sleepiness. However, my brother also takes it (in the morning) and never complained about being sleepy. Hope this helps!
I have taken both Eliquis and Atorvastatin together since 2022. I was told by my medical team it didn't matter what time of day I took them and they said I could take them together or separately. Of course, each person is different so you need to be sure it's ok with your medical team. I take them together at 11 am. Have not suffered any ill effects.
