I am due a call from doctors pharmacist this morning as I wanted to check if these supplements are okay to take along with edoxaban and Bisoprolol. I just wondered if anyone here has experience using them please?

The nurse at the hospital when I went for my pre-op told me not to take vitamin D at the same time as Edoxaban, as it has an anticoagulant effect. She said I can still take it, just not both at the same time. So now I take the Edoxaban with breakfast and the vitamin D with lunch. It would be interesting to know what your pharmacist says.

I take D3 and have no problems. Best to ask a pharmacist as they know a lot more about interactions than GP's normally do - though sure your GP will look this up when you ask them. I take my apixaban at 7am and take my D3 later after breakfast - about 8.30 - 9.00

The main thing about taking Vitamin D3 is it must be taken at the same time with a healthy fat, such as an avacado, or your body will not absorb it. It is a fat soluble vitamin. It is often recommended to take K2 along with D3, you can even purchase it as one capsule now. But, I do not know about interaction with the blood thinners. Hopefully, the pharmacist will know.

I took D3 and Eliquis for many years with no problems, but not at the same time.. I had the Wolf Mini Maze and i am now off of all drugs including Eliquis. 🎉

Vitamin C is water soluble, so it can be taken with just water and your body will absorb it.

I’ll be interested to hear what your pharmacist says, and what other people have been told.

I’m on Apixaban and Bisoprolol but also on some other meds, so I’m not saying this would apply to you. But when I asked my GP and pharmacist, they both said vit D3 was fine to take at any time (and in fact I needed it as deficient) but told me not to take K2. My GP didn’t agree that it’s ever needed along with D3, and my pharmacist said she wasn’t sure about interaction so best to avoid it.

I didn’t have confidence in either reply as they didn’t sound to be based on actual research findings, just lack of knowledge about K2 supplementation. I’m hoping for more helpful advice, not sure where to get it though!

One of the effects of D3 is to increase calcium absorption in the gut. If your diet is high in calcium containing food like dairy or you take a calcium supplement then K2 helps ensure that the calcium goes where it belongs ie into the bones and teeth and not into soft tissues such as artery walls or the breast tissue. Our bodies make some K2 (I think bacteria can produce it in the gut) and it is conveniently present along side calcium in aged cheese. I have been taking D3 for many years. My GP prescribes it . I take it in the morning alongside Apixaban with no problem. I take K2 four days a week.

Very good idea to take both. You should have your blood level for Vit D taken as it's most likely to low to have a baseline. Asking for K2 level makes no sense as they will deliver K1 at best. It's also K1 which could indeed increase coagulation not K2. K2 should be actually the MK7 variant. The dose depends also on skin color and obesity as dark skin and obese people need more.

I would recommend you to go to YouTube and look for videos by Dr. John Campbell relating to Vitamin D. You'll get all the information you need.

I did use them and had no effects from them. So far as I know, they are entirely safe to take with the newer anticoagulants which do not interact, as does the older warfarin, with certain foods.

On the Drugs.com web site no interaction at all between Vitamin D3 ("cholecalciferol") and Edoxaban is reported to exist.

I take d3, magnesium and coq10 and drugs are metoprolol and on occasions Flecainide. My cardiologist said that’s ok but to not take vitamins within a 2 hour period before and after taking the drugs to ensure proper absorption of the drugs

I have been taking D3 (in the winter) and K2 MK7 90mcg (year round) for about 15 years without a problem. I'm on warfarin and it helps stabilise the INR.

I've been taking Ad Cal for years. Never told to take it with a gap from Apixaban but was told to take it with a gap to my Thyroxine, so I take Thyroxine when I get up and Ad Cal at bedtime. Not been told about taking it after a meal though so will look into that.

It is the calcium that interferes with thyroxine absorption so they should be taken at least 4 hours apart.. Some thyroid sites say you should not eat dairy either within 4 hours of thyroxine. I have started taking mine just before I go to sleep.

Yes, I did know about the dairy, so I stopped having yogurt at breakfast. I was told to take the Thyroxine on an empty stomach, so as soon as I get up being the best time for that, and allow at least 30 mins before having anything to eat or drink. Thyroid has been behaving for the past 15 years so I'm happy with what I'm doing but isn't it concerning what conflicting information is out there for a variety of conditions.

Yes it's a minefield! I was having unexplained rises to above the normal range of TSH and alongside it cholesterol so I will have to see if taking it at night has improved things when I next get bloods done.

Just to update, she said one supplement containing pumpkin seed, soy germ, d3, b6 and zinc should be okay. She wasn't sure about d3+k2 mk7 so was going to speak to a doctor and call me back yesterday. No call so far..
