Does anyone know if diltiazem effects the bladder. I have started getting a sore feeling bladder and have been on diltazem for about 4 years and a blood thinner rivaroxaban. It might be time for some alternative if its that. Thanks, Colin

Diltiazem side effects.
There is some interestng stuff on google you might like to look at regarding reduction in bladder capacity and sphincter strength with calcium chanel blockers.
Oh blimey - THAT'S my problem 😅. I knew it weakened the oesophagal sphincters and don't want to go back on it.
Does that mean you have gone off the diltiazem ?
Yes I has an ablation which worked well for 21 months. Recent problems so have used PiP with my Flecainide. If I need to take it regularly I'd have to have a partner drug. I don't want Diltiazem again- my EP told me Digoxin is a possibility.
Hi

Hi😊 I think you should get your bladder checked by your gp. Just because we have AF, or any other arrhythmia, doesn’t mean we can’t have other problems. Best to go and put your mind at ease. Best wishes ☘️
hello Alphakiwi,
my experience with Diltiazem is limited to a maximum dose of 180mg once a day. it worked for me by keeping out of afib for 5 years then it was switched to Multaq which worked for a year and then gradually was less effective. I am now on 120mg of Diltiazem for a month and so far is so good.
My diltiazem side effects include light headedness , swelling around the ankles and general tiredness.
So far so good with Rivaoxyban. Some previous bleeding after dental work but OK on Dental practitioner and leaflet advice to stop faking for 2 days before treatment Best of luck
I used diltiazem a little more than 1 year, got bladder problems. Now I use digoxin.
I've been on Diltiazem for almost 7.5 years (varying dosages from currently 180mg to 360mg) and not had any bladder issues that I'm aware of.
That sounds encouraging. It does work well and no blood tests like digoxin
I was on Bisoprolol originally but after 3 months of not being able to breath/function with it, my pharmacist recommended that I asked the consultant to switch me to Diltiazem. Had a bit of puffiness on my ankles and feet on the higher dosage but that was better than being breathless.Hope you get sorted.
