Several days ago I had general anaesthetic for the first time (cardioversion). It was all fine, but I soon noticed a grumbling oesophagus -- first when I put in earplugs on the morning after (noisy neighbour). Then last night, 72hrs later, the noises (in my oesophagus) were audible to me as I sat on the sofa. Squeaking, burbling and clicking, sort of a cross between digestion and an MRI. In bed they were even more obvious. Has anyone else experienced this? I am assuming it's a side effect, not something sinister (can you hear blood clots forming?!). No acid reflux or anything, just the noises.

Did you have a transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) to check for blood clots prior to the cardioversion ? If so, may be a temporary side effect.
Or it may be the shock of the cardioversion temporarily caused the issue.
Would not be concerned unless it continues, then report to doctor.
Interestingly, after my ablation, when I wear earplugs, I have been same to hear a tiny high pitched squeaking when I breathe fully out.
I suspect you have the same thing. Mine is very quiet. I have never mentioned this to my GP, but it has never changed in the four years that have elapsed.
