Recent Ablation
If you're feeling fine, that's normal. If you're having trouble doing much more than walking around the house, that's also normal. Ablation recovery is a very individual thing and how your body reacts is probably a better guide than any advice or pamphlets. Some go on long bike rides within a week and others, like myself, took over 3 months to start feeling well enough for pre-ablation exercise.
Hopefully, your ep's office has reached out to you by now to evaluate your symptoms post procedure. If not, unless your're asymptomatic, initiate the call yourself and tell them what is going on.
Jim
Thanks for the reply. I do not feel fine. In fact I feel terrible. Hope it resolves soon.
Did you speak to your ep's office? What did they say? "Feeling terrible" at one week can be a normal response to ablation requiring no further intervention, or it could be something that needs to be addressed by the ep ASAP. There is a pamphlet on this forum somewhere that hopefully someone will give you a link to. It lists some of the more common post ablation issues, but not all.
Jim
Thanks Jim. From what I’ve read, my symptoms are normal. I guess I thought I would be good in a day or two. My ep did not tell me what to expect. Lesson learned!
Found the link to the pamphlet (see below). Very helpful, but keep in mind it's directed to UK residents, so driving restrictions, etc, do not pertain to US citizens. Also, a bit thin on recovery symptoms that may require the intervention of your ep, such as chest pain while breathing and other issues. To paraphrase Dr. John Mandrola, an outspoken US ep, Ablation is a much bigger procedure than made out to be.
That’s the preparing for sheet, here’s the other information sheet, recovering from.

You don’t say what symptoms you have or what type of ablation you had, you may get more responses with more information.
I had Cryoablation with sedation just over 7 weeks ago and have been fine apart from a 16 hour episode of AF at day 6.
Hope you feel better soon.
PS, another link where you can find both sheets heartrhythmalliance.org/afa...
Thanks for the heads up. The one I linked did have a section on "going home", etc. Maybe a good idea to combine the two?

Yes, it’s not easy or straightforward to navigate to the information, I had a try recently on my last post to explain how to navigate. healthunlocked.com/afassoci...
heartrhythmalliance.org/afa go here and use the Menu button is the best advice I think and let members browse as shortcuts bypass a lot of helpful information that you might bump in to through the menus.
So go to Treatments, then Ablation to get all ablation related sheets.
Hi Gary. There’s a wealth of info on ablation from the many contributors on this forum. Check it out in the search. You’ll see that everyone’s experience is different, but we all seem to take longer to recover than many hospital print-outs seem to suggest! It’s so important to rest up and that’s what your body is telling you to do. By week 12 I had my stamina back, felt better than I’d felt for a very long time and was/am fully recovered. But to get here I wasn’t taking any chances. I felt pretty rough for 3 or 4 weeks and went with the flow, avoided exertion or doing anything and even week five was just doing the shortest of walks, bits of cooking and cleaning with plenty rests. I followed my EPs advice and was walking half hour a day by week six. Still feeling a bit weak but loving that NSR. Ablation is a major procedure and your heart needs time to heal the scars and settle back into the corrected pattern. Enjoy some time out and hope you quickly make a good recovery.
Hi Garry in what way do you feel terrible, you should have been given an instruction leaflet from the hospital that carried out the procedure and it should have a contact telephone number in case you had any worries.
I felt terrible after my ablation in October very weak but was so relieved to have had it done even though NSR only lasted 4 days at least that was progress from waiting .I lost a lot of blood from the groin and felt very weak the wound seeped for a number of days and I had a lump . I rang the Arrythmia nurses number
at the hospital miles away who had done the ablation and they were very supportive .
I have learnt since my ablation and years of sitting back waiting for help while my AF progressed that you need to be proactive and to speak up.
I hope you feel better soon,.Another thing don’t have any preconceptions about how long it takes to get better following an ablation , we are all different listen to your body eat healthily avoid stress and get lots of rest and sleep .
‘
hope things improve. It can take upto 6 months to get back to normal
How are you feeling ? Please be reassured, everyone recovers from a procedure a different rate, so it is important to listen to your body and do either as little or as much as you feel. Try not to overdo it and avoid heavy lifting for a while. It is not unknown many experience palpitations and a rapid heart rate shortly after the procedure, and symptoms such as a sore throat, headache and digestion issues.
For further information and advice, please download the 'Recovering from an Ablation' information sheet? api.heartrhythmalliance.org...
The information sheet from this forum, is the best I’ve read. Far better than the one I received from the hospital after my ablation.
Im booked for next month 😏
