Another whole story , the sugar rush from refined sugar and carbohydrates that triggers an afib . - glycemic . Avoid that . A bad one for me is from Instant Oatmeal !! The Nature plain oat cakes , no reaction . Bit lazy to cook up organic whole non refined oat porridge . 🙈

Tobys Quaker Oats ready instant natural flavour gives me worst glycemic rush , almost same as a jam cream scone . ( I do have occasionally to remind myself just how bad pure sugar reacts in me ) 🤣

People/popular press cast a wide blanket over carbohydrates... there is a significant difference between processed simple carbohydrates and un/lightly-processed complex carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates tend to include sugars and flours which are so finely ground that the body reacts to them as if they were simple sugars.

On the spectrum of oats, instant oats oats are worse, quick oats a bit better, old fashioned oats a bit better still, but still can trigger Insulin response. Steel cut oats are much less triggering but a bit so due to the cutting of the whole grain into 2-3 pieces. The least blood sugar spiking is the original whole groat. The intact grain wall makes it hard for the stomach and small intestine to digest the tough grain and so sugar is released into the blood much slower leading to a more general rise and fall in blood sugar.

Dr Michael Greger wrote a book which addresses this issue called How Not to Diet and has a totally free website, nutritionfacts.org, where he has numerous videos and blogs that discuss the research backed science about the importance of processing of our food and the body's response to it in terms of blood sugar and insulin
