I have an enlarged prostate and I am trying to determine if I should be taking medicines or have a procedure such as TURP. I would like to get some experiences of people that have taken Flomax or other medicines to reduce the prostate size. I have an allergy to sulfa, what makes me a little nervous about using Flomax

You have joined a community which deals with atrial fbrillation, a heart arrhythmia. Why not search Healthunlocked for prostate.
You should search out a forum concerned with prostate health. I have had a TURP Operation and was fine and it made me feel so much better. For me anything is better than taking lots of medications which then need more medications to deal with side effects. I had my TURP in 2003 and it was very successful after suffereing problems for many years. The material taken away was also biopsied so I knew also that I did not have prostate cancer at that time which was comforting - my regular PSA checks were not above normal so every one was pretty sure I didn't have prostate cancer but good to have that in writing. Unfortunately in 2015 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and was lucky to have early treatment and am now considered cured - though my wife worries at every annual PSA test. Prostate Cancer runs in my family with my Dad dying at 89 with prostate cancer but not of it and my brother and I being diagnosed at similar ages with it. Luckily both now cancer free for many years after early treatment.
For my TURP I was in hospital for one night and had no problems afterwards. I was probably a little sore for 48 hours or so but really it wasn't too bad at all. If you are worried about some medication then do ask about trying different medications as there are more than flomax
