For me, it depends on the type and severity of the dental work to be done.

I always get non-adrenaline injections regardless of the procedure. For fillings, things are usually straightforward .

For extractions, you may need to miss one or more anticoagulants - your dentist will advise. When I need an extraction, I try to get a very early appointment and simply delay the AC until the procedure is over.

Make sure to tell your dentist everything - and remind him/her at each visit.

Difficult extractions may have some seepage when the swelling goes down, if you are taking an AC.

Most dentists are now fully aware of AF patients' needs and have protocols in place, although I always remind my dentist to use non-adrenaline injections.

Thanks. Do the non-adrenaline injections work? Incidentally I don't take anti-coagulants. I don't score high enough on the score rating - I forget what they call it.

I have had no problems - a couple of fillings and 3 extractions - the last one took just over an hour. The numbing doesn't last as long and I seem to remember that adrenaline helps to control bleeding but I might have that wrong. I had to have adrenaline once at the start of my AF and my heart went beserk - never want a repeat of that.

Anti-coagulant - I shouldn't use abbreviations.

Other than asking for non adrenaline pain relief, and cavity plug if tooth extraction, what and you worried about? I've had root canal work, tricky wonky wisdom teeth out, teeth capped.

Forgive me but you seem very stressed/ concerned with the perceived impact of AF on your life. I empathise, as many of us did too, in the early days .

Hi

With AF and my extractions one infected after filling I picked up from Dr antibiotics.

The Dentist wasn't worried about my PRADAXA. I delay it but Dentist said they have anti-bleeding during a bleed. I didn't have one.

Of course done at the hospital.

Dentist refused to extract as near to sinus network.

Its a heart murmur that you ask Dr re antibiotics.

I think Dentists have moved with the times with AFers.

I just wanted the infected tooth out. Dentist asked me if I wanted a root canal. No thanks I said.

My injections stayed the same as everyone else.

Agree entirely with Finvola below. Make sure your dentist knows the score. They will have procedures in place to cover AF patients. I recently had an extraction and it went fine.

Hi I had a wisdom tooth extraction just before Xmas, I made the dentist aware I had afib and I needed non adrenaline injections. I’m also not on anticoagulants. The dentist told me it isn’t as effective as the normal one but It was ok. The healing bit was worse for me. Good luck.

my dentist gives me two amoxicillin 1 g each to take together 2 hours befire I have dental work. Which was just cleaning actually, nothing major so I’d imagine she’d be the same for anything more. Having said that my dentist has moved and I’m about to see another and who knows if he’s the same. I’m in France by the way. I think the antibiotics are because with afib it’s thst infections csn affect heart, something like that.
