Been on bisoprolol apixaban and lansoprozole with few SEs for 3 and a half years, can they cause hoarseness or sore throat which started a few weeks ago after this long?If it continues I will of course contact my GP.

P.S. It's not an infection

Unlikely at this stage. Side effects usually appear earlier. Can't be ruled out though. Have you read the pack inserts and is this shown as a side effect? I don't take these medications so have no experience. Have you been talking more than usual or drinking alcohol more than usual or something? My eldest son has been away visiting his brother in the US. He drinks very little and does not drink at home unless we visit and go out together for a meal but of course they have both over indulged (my youngest son often does so it didn't affect him) but my eldest son lost his voice for a few days - this can either be from the drinking or being in a crowded bar where he had to raise his voice or shout to be heard. Again it's not an infection and no sore throat. You can sometimes lose your voice after having a cough and/or cold even though the cough and cold are gone - have you had one recently?

If you can find no reason for this and it continues I would see your GP. I know how long you can wait for a GP appointment so maybe see your pharmacist in the meantime for advice. I was a PE instructor and had to suck something to keep my voice from going when really busy as did my wife's Mum who was also a teacher.

I would think not. More likely, I would guess, is that the soreness and voice issues are being caused by the effects of infected catarrh dripping down from the sinuses. There is a lot of that around this winter causing a kind of variable but long-term "cold". I have had it more maybe two months now. Another potential but uncommon cause is acid or pepsin reflux coming up from the stomach. I imagine it will just right itself in time, or when the drier spring weather arrives.

I don't know if the tablets can do it but acid reflux certainly can. My husband's voice started to get really croaky so I forced him to the doctor who sent him t o hospital for tests. ENT told him he had silent acid reflux ie acid but with no symptoms. The stomach acid coming up was damaging his voice box. He was put on a PPI to reduce the acid. Unfortunately he wasn't wearing his hearing aids at the time so he didn't hear the explanation and totally refused to take the tablets saying he has no stomach problems. 3 years down the line I can now barely understand what he says but he still won't do anything about it. Tell your GP and get a referral to ENT

No doubt in my mind that acid reflux (Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) causes voice hoarseness. Best solution to acid reflux is found in this video youtube.com/watch?v=CKDAKr5....

PPI has great deal of serious side effects - apparently, it is also closely associated with Alzheimer's disease.

I know about PPIs . The problem with my husband is that he has no symptoms of reflux at all so he refuses to accept that that's what's causing his voice problems and why he won't even take the tablets. That's a good video thanks. I do get heartburn so I'll try it . Because of spinal damage my diaphragm tightens up badly and affects my breathing. That could help relax it.

If I had a pound for every person that's told me they have reflux over the last few weeks I'd be a rich man. I think there's something going around mixed with a little overindulgence. You are already on a PPI so you are already being treated for reflux or silent reflux. As ppiman said it could be post nasal drip from the sinuses. I'd wait and see if it clears. Or try gaviscon advanced after every meal for a week. I do that and weaned myself off ppi s after years on them.Cutting out bread products helped me as well.
