In August I became ill with what amounted to heart failure symptoms, breathlessness, fluid on lungs, circulation issues. A bnp test came back with moderately high readings for heart failure (1300) . I eventually had an echocardiogram and have been waiting for the results.
Meanwhile I discovered that around August the 1st , I had been on 5-7.5 mg bisoprolol in July, I was increased to 10-12.5 mg in prep for a surgery. The pharmacy or surgery increased my tablets to 5mg instead of 2.5mg. This meant that I was taking 20-25mg of bisop per day.
Just to report back to say that a) how ridiculous these heart tests have been 4.5 months - but my echo was clear. Along with the other tests they believe it was the drug overdose NOT heart failure. Thank goodness for that. I’m still ill because they didn’t want to change my meds until today and now we reduce slowly, but hopefully I will get my life back, when I get off so many tablets.

That's awful to hear about you having to take that massive dose of Bisoprolol.
When in hospital with covid and pneumonia last year, which had an effect on my heart rate too, I refused point blank when a junior consultant suggested I take 10mg of Warfarin and we settled on 7.5mg for a short while. I think doctors and consultants are surprised when they hear that I have an opinion. Your situation was different of course and I would have done exactly as told if I'd been in your position.
It's shameful how long you've been waiting for the results of your heart tests. Are you in the UK? If so I would contact the local PALS team at your hospital, they will soon get things moving for you.
That’s scary. I suppose we should always pay attention to the labels and the packaging to double check what we’re taking, but it was a bit amiss of the pharmacy not to explain the changes, assuming you pick it up from a shop with a pharmacist employed. With so many people having online postal prescriptions now, they won’t get this advice., they’ll just get a parcel in the post, so it’s imperative to double check everything. With some older people with poor sight or are less sharp in the mind, this kind of confusion doesn’t bear thinking about.
This is disgraceful. I recall your earlier post. Do take this up with PAL s team at your hospital. Somebody needs to be held accountable. As I said before I always double check anything I've been instructed to take in hospital even though I'm given funny looks.🙄
hi . I’m sorry to hear you are struggling. They found the fluid on my lungs after a chest X-ray. I think in hindsight it was there because I had just had a virus, or because the overloading of all that bisoprolol in my system caused these heart failure symptoms. It was a very short lived thing.
