AF is back after lung cancer operation

I had a successful ablation over 4 years ago and stayed in sinus rhythm until this week. I had an operation 2 weeks ago and this week my Apple Watch detected AF. This has been confirmed by GP. Bisoprolol is increased from 5mg to 7.5 to try to reduce the heart rate. Starting that today. I was warned by the surgeon that the operation may cause AF hopefully only temporary. Has anyone had this experience?

I went into AF the day after surgery about 9 months ago. The Afib episode lasted about 6 hours. I put it down to the general anaesthetic rather than the surgery per se.

Sorry to hear of your medical situation. I have noticed from previous Posts that anti-cancer medications are a well-known cause of arrhythmias.

The following article is relevant, and hope you find it informative. Because my phone keeps crashing I cannot give a direct link to the article, but a Google search on the title finds it easily. The free full text is available if you follow the links given, and a pdf to download. It is an NIH National Library of Medicine document.

"Atrial Fibrillation Induced by Anticancer Drugs and Underling Mechanisms"

Go well and hope your surgery is successful.

Thanks - luckily I am not on any anti cancer drugs so can’t blame them.
