enalopril and diltiazam

My husband had an ablation in June which has made his AF worse. He was taken off bisoprosol and switched to diltiazam. He has just received an email with a copy letter to his GP saying as a result of his echocardiogram to put him enalopril. Does anyone else take this combination there is no mention of the diltiazam which he takes 240 each day. He has normal to low blood pressure.

Hi I thought I had a fib all through the pandemic and when I went for a hospital ecg they said flutter hr was 135 most of the time.I was on Verapimil 120 slow release 2 times daily and it brought my hr down nicely.I don't take Elanepril but I also take Losarton. No probs at all. Once the ablation was done the verapimil was totally stopped which did worry me but actually was OK.I still get the occasional run of SVT .

I suggest you contact the hospital and ask for the reason behind this recommendation. It would appear that the recommendation was made because of the echocardiogram findings so whoever has access to the report will understand why this change in medication has been suggested. It’s important to clear up any confusion because you don’t want to make mistakes with your husband’s medication. Sometimes misunderstandings occur just from clumsily written documents.

Thanks for the reply the letter never mentioned stopping the diltiazam but to prescribe the enalopril. It was a different cardiologist that prescribed the bisoprosol.

I was just wondering if anyone took both for flutter I think it is a mistake. He has booked to see his own cardiologist privately in 2 weeks to hopefully get some answers. In the meantime if his GP prescribed the additional medication he is not going to take it.

It’s wise to be cautious. Two more weeks on the current meds probably won’t make much difference anyway, but you are right to query it. I hope you get the answers you need. Good luck with the appointment. I hope your husband is reassured.

Diltiazem and Enalapril are often used together. However, do pay attention if there is persistent cough or swelling in the mouth or tongue, which could be adverse reaction of Enalapril. Also check heart rate and blood pressure regularly to make sure it's not too low.

Hi

Diltiazem is a CCB Calcium Channel Blocker taken AM away from another Blocker so separate them. Your E.................. is an ACE blocker.

I take Diltiazem 120mg for H/R was rapid but 60s now. Take without food.

I take Bisoprolol 2.5mg at PM with food & water

and PRADAXA 110mg x twice day.

Both will assist any irregular Heart Beat.

See what the private H/Sp says.

Often when changes are made you have a checkup with a 24hr Heart Monitor. I had x 3 with every changed regime of meds.

He should start out with a lower dose, 120 mg might be better, ask the pharmacist , they know more about meds than the doctor does.
