AMIODARONE SCARE

Hello everyone; If anyone recalls, about a little over a month ago I was told I had minimal lung fibrosis as an x-ray revealed it that was related to amiodarone. Well after a ct-scan looking specifically for fibrosis I am ecstatic to say the findings came back NEGATIVE, none whatsoever. During that time I cut my daily amiodarone dose in half from 200mg to 100mg and just as my EP said I went into constant afib, really hated that so when I got the good news from ct-scan went back to original dose of 200mg, but was still in constant afib. Emailed my EP and told him and he said it would probably take around 4 weeks before the amiodarone would be at full strength as supported by clinical studies. Well it's been about two and a half weeks now and I am seeing afib lasting for a day or two then NSR for a couple of days so hopefully I will return to normal routine in another week or so. Had two weeks of "zio' patch wear but not heard anything back yet and my primary care DR. said if I didn't have any side effects from amiodarone in five years of use that I wouldn't more than likely have any in the future. I just want to thank all the members on this website that expressed concern and replied to my post. Thank You All and have a Blessed Day, may we all get to a point in our journey with this afib that we can tolerate it and live a normal life!

That’s really good and very reassuring news. If there were a safer drug to take, or if your symptoms weren’t so troubling, I’d come off it tomorrow but till then, rest easy while keeping alert and having regular checks as the amiodarone treatment protocol requires. The trial I posted about long term safety is worth its weight in gold.

Great article and Thank You, let's hope they can find newer and safer alternatives to amiodarone.

I’m very pleased to hear that, Coach. What a relief for you after such a worrying time. I hope your AFib is soon back under control and they continue to monitor you as the drug requires. All the best to you, TC
