Travel Insurance recommendations for those with AF.

Any up to date travel insurance recommendations for those with AF, preferably with an idea of the price? Travelling to Europe. I’ve heard that a common question is “have you have any medical procedures carried out in the last 12 months?”; as I had a bypass about 10 months ago, is it worth waiting for another two months so that I could (hopefully) answer “no”?

Virtually impossible to answer because there are so many variables. Remember, cheapest rarely means best and nearly all travel insurance companies have mastered the art of wriggling out of any claim that’s made against them. Sorry to sound negative but it’s a minefield! We are currently with Staysure who are very efficient when buying, just hope we never need to find out if they will be equally as helpful if we need to make a claim….Bognor’s nice this time of year 😂

Also with Staysure. We had to get annual worldwide this year as we went to Canada so was £500. Previous year for Europe only about £200.

You will not get away with not declaring your bypass. The question is more likely to be ‘have you EVER had a heart attack or stroke’. There are usually about 5 statements that you need to answer yes or no to and one will undoubtedly be about the heart and circulatory system. Questions will follow from there about treatment that you received. Obviously you need to be honest or the policy will be void.

Try looking on the British Heart Foundation website for recommendations for travel insurance.

Im in Australia and ticked the box that I have PAF. It asked have I had any unplanned visits to hospital or emergency. I said no as my discharge clearly says Planned Cardioversion. I also chatted to a rep from Bupa who arranged the travel insurance via their underwriter Allianz. Cost about $300 Australian dollars

Try Avanti. It was recommended on this forum. Just had a quote for £225 for a 71 years old couple going to Africa. I have 3 medical conditions including an ablation a year ago.

Yes! I rang them this morning and they gave me an excellent quote. Told them about the AF and bypass.

we were recommended all clear, i found its better to ring them. It’s probably more expensive , we got annual for 1500 , my husband had a stroke 6 months ago and we both have af so most company’s wouldn’t cover us for the year.
