I am scheduled to have a Wolf Mini Maze early December. The thoracic surgeon wants me to stop taking Sotalol and start taking Amiodarone.I have conflicting information on how to switch from my EP and the thoracic surgeon. If anyone has switched please share how you did it.

Thank you

That is not within the remit of either the fourm or members and you must seek clarification from your doctors.

I'm sorry if I over stepped the boundaries of the group. It was not my intention. I was looking to see if anyone taking these medications was faced stopping one medication and starting another and their experiences.

As BobD states, must seek clarification from your doctors.

Curious of the professional relationship between the EP and thoracic surgeon in relation to prescribing Sotalol and Amiodarone ?

There is no relationship between the EP and thoracic surgeon. My EP states there is no cure for AFib and stated you will be on medications the rest of your life, which is unacceptable to me. Having the WMM will allow me to be med free. I am not asking for medical advice (perhaps I worded it incorrectly) I was asking if anyone has switched from Sotalol to Amiodarone, and how was it done as in did you take them both together while tapping down off the other? Did you stop one and begin the other?

As I hoped to have explained, we should not give advice like that as we are not medically trained. Good luck with you quest for a better life.

It turned out I tried a very low dose of Amiodarone for 1 month pre WMM with severe headaches and light sensitivity. I ended up going back on Sotalol for my heart rhythm medication and will remain on it for a few months post WMM.

No, I have taken neither. My question was because I am considering Sotalol as offered by my cardiologist. And was curious on the thoracic surgeon recommending you to switch instead on the EP.

Best to you for a successful WMM !

Sotalol does not control my AFib. I have been taking it for many years. I did not have side effects from taking it, but earlier this year he increased the dosage and I could not function, I had no energy. I have read the Amiodarone is a much stronger medication and calms the heart is what I have read. Are you familiar with the WMM? My cardiologist is on board with the WMM.

May I ask if you have persistent or paroxysmal afib ?

Not personally familiar with the WMM but it has received great reviews. Hopefully, others who can provide detail will opine.

Amiodarone and the WMM have been readily discussed on the forum. You may want to use the search function at top of page for past threads.

Yes, it was this forum that I learned about the WMM and after researching I decided to have the procedure done. I have paroxysmal Afib that can go on for 7-8 days before converting back to NSR. I have had AFib for approximately 12-15 years.

Thank you

Find the WMM Facebook page. There are lots of past patients there who have had this experience.
