Has anyone got a positive response to taking sotalol
Thank you.
Hello, I'm never sure what to reply to this question... even after 6 yrs on sotalol! It makes me as bit "dopey" but regulates AFib and various irregular "hops, skips and jumps"...A year ago I had a long AFib session and my cardio man doubled my dose from 80mg per day to 160mg per day. I had to stop that double dose as it really made me tired. I tried it for a few weeks though. Did not reduce ticker irregularities anyway.
Oh thank you It makes me a bit dopey too! How are you now. I hope it’s settled. I had a 30 hour stint running a marathon but not running. That was the equivalent of my hopping skipping heart. So mine been behaving for nearly 2 months. Whoop whoop.
Got to see cardiologist after monitor tomorrow.
My head feels like it’s filled with wall insulation at times. Do you ever get that.? I could watch paint dry some days. I force myself to get going thanks for reply. Hope you ok now. Cheers
I took sotalol and I was really happy, that was until I developed gastritis which was really painful. Needless to say I had to stop so I was changed to Nevibolol and I am waiting to see if the side effects are too much.
Oh dear that must be horrible for you. Painful. Do you take anything for gastritis? Hope Nevibolol works. Thank for replying.
I have taken 80 mg twice daily since 2011. It definitely makes a difference in reducing the rate and erratic rhythm.
The only problem was in 2014, when my heart rate became too low. I had to have a pacemaker to control the low rate, in order to continue to medicate the high rates.
I take 80mg of Sotalol twice a day and have been for the last two years or so. My AF attacks are now more frequent, approximately every 7 days and last for 24-36 hours but my heart rate never now goes above 120. I also take an extra pill when I first go into AF. No problems with the Sotalol.
Thank you Clarrie. Can I ask when you take the pill in pocket do you take the 80 mg. I have always taken 40mg. Maybe that’s my problem. Another question to ask consultant so thank you. X
I was on Sotalol ( 80mg twice a day ) for about three years with Flecianide 100mg x 2 as my PIP, and that worked well for most of the time until it was decided following a few episodes that I had both AF and Flutter and needed a separate ablation for both. Last one was on 11th Dec 19 and now on 2.5mg Bisoprolol so I now hoping things will be more settled.
Yes, I took it for 18 months prior to my ablation. Only side effect was upset stomach occasionally. Kept af away throughout.
After a cardioversion for atrial flutterf I was put on Amiodarone which kept me in normal rhythm but had unacceptable side effects. I was then changed to Sotalol 80mg twice a day. This has kept me in normal rhythm for two years without any apparent side effects.
Hi, I have taken 40mg twice daily since 2014 and haven’t experienced unwanted side effects. Still get spells of AF that seems to come and go for a week or so then can have long spells of being AF free. Always feel little concerned as I understand not widely used in UK but Consultant happy to keep me on it rather than changing. Trust all will go well for you
I take 160 mg of Sotalol 3 x a day and have done for 13 years. Went part time at work (teacher) and then retired early as it does make me tired, otherwise no problems. Am also fitted with an icd as my mum had the same heart problem and died at 45 (I m 58 and have had an icd for 15 years). They got my arrhythmia stable in hospital by slowly increasing the dose as they were trying to avoid putting me on amiodorone.
Thank you MathsNicky. A maths teacher by any chance? 🙃. Thank you for your reply. Very encouraging. So glad you have kept on top of it. Sotalol seems to work for me. Can I ask you if you use a PIP ? With all the new drugs people are using and Sotalol not being used much was interested in people who do use Sotalol. Thank you.
Too many Sotalols ha.
