I am 82 years old, about 3 years after being diagnosed with AFib.
A measure of my improvement with the condition in recent weeks, is that I am a less
frequent reader of Health Unlocked now. Since being introduced to this valuable
resource, this regular bulletin of fellow sufferers collective experience, I have
gained comfort and support from the stories and anecdotes in its columns.
From the outset of this health issue becoming apparent for me, I believed that
there was a connection with very gassy uncomfortable digestive conditions. I used
to belch loudly and prolonged (in private). I began to suspect that organs in my abdominal postcode would not be happy with the regular gale force assault. My heart doing its best to plod on steadily, in spite of prevailing winds. My symptoms (during episodes) were rather strange, not feeling my normal self, uneasy, anxious. Always ready to try anything that might help, health supplements were tried and a combination of improved sleep and a quietening of storm conditions, seem to have almost sorted the problem. A nightly tablet of Ashwaghanda has significantly helped a sounder sleeping pattern. I came across some GUT health gummies (nice blue berry flavour) which are claimed to promote bacterial improvement with digestion. Also at mealtimes to take a multi enzyme tablet that definitely seems to assist with more peaceful processing of food. I strongly recommend any one with AFib and at the same time dealing with digestive problems, to try a similar path. I have experienced marked improvement with AFib, and .......its worth a try. After 13 (nearly 14 ) years since being diagnosed, and since making the connection with gut and heart and vagal nerve I am now pretty much free of AF. What needs to always be remembered is that what works for the goose may not work for the gander.
I have been fortunate but I must always doff my hat to my Nutritionists. Without them laying the building blocks I think I would still be in a pickle. Also it needs to be acknowledged that my successes only relate to my heart/ gut relationship ........... AF can also manifest itself from many other triggers none the least is a persons genetics.
What a useful post. Thank you! I have similar gastric involvement, although the burping was only truly awful when I had atrial flutter. I have come to suspect the heart causes the gastric issues, perhaps anxiety causing them, too, rather than the other way round but I am never sure. These days the burping is much less prominent but still there at times. I struggle, too, with insomnia so your suggestions sound interesting, indeed.
Useful post thanks. Also worth pointing out despite most patients recognising the heart gut link, quite a few medics incl my own cardio operating in their own silo with no nutrition training don't recognise the link in consultation but maybe privately.
~Just love your sense of humor & warm spirit Shyman - well done with connecting the dots to improve your lot - indeed the gut & heart paradigm intrinsically linked. Research still been done within this field.
Important to mention that the role of vagus nerve tied up here too.
As you know diet/sleep/exercise + all add up to positivity when ticking our mental/physical/emotional boxes too.
