Increased Afib post Cyroablation

Hi fellow Afib’er, Had Cyroablation on the 15th Sept and everything went fine. I know it only been 11 days since it was done but have had 5 Afib episodes in that time. Prior to ablation I was only getting it once a week. I understand there’s a blanket period for recovery but has anyone had this issue where episodes have got worse before it’s got better.

Getting myself worried that the ablation is going to be a fail which is not helping 😢

Thank you. The fact sheet answered all my questions and reassured me.

It takes time to settle. Glad to hear you feel assured by the leaflet.Try not to jump ahead and let yourself rest. That really is important and underplayed by hospital staff in my opinion.. Took about 5 months to settle for me after 3rd ablation. All going well now!

It’s so hard to chill when you’re feeling okay it’s not until the Afib kicks in while I’m asleep 😬 You said you had 3 ablations were they all the balloon type ablation? I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I only need the one but will do what is needed.

I had one cryo (freezing) and 2 RF (heat). The RF are more precise. This is often, but not always, required as a "touch up" after a cryoablation, for that reason. RF is usually, not always, done under general. I was ambivalent about the potential of success of the ablations having been in AF for so long. BUT I was not really in a place to decline treatment (I was pretty desperate and very unwell). I had realistic expectations that have been far exceeded.

I look back and think it was one rough year but I have no regrets about the procedures. Even though it took me out of work in total for about 8 months with financial and other impacts. I now feel it was worth it and am the healthiest I have been in a long time.

Hope that helps.

Hi Fullofheart, that’s great you have had success after 3 ablations. Fingers crossed the one sorts me out.

I’m in the same boat as you were being unable to work due to working on a gas platform as I’m classed as to high risk if something happens. Like yourself just have to accept the financial loss but think health is more important in the long run 👍

I had lots of episodes immediately after rf ablation in 2013. Took almost 6 months to gradually decrease and settle down. Then no more af for about 9years. Has returned recently but atm infrequent episode.

Note your resting heart rate may be higher too. That took almost a year to return to normal. So rest, be patient and good luck. ☘️

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Glad to say that I was Afib free last night first time in 5 days. Feel I’ve more energy today with getting a good nights sleep.

Your heart's been through a lot and is in the early healing stages. My heart did the same as yours after my first (cryo) ablation, constantly going into a-fib. It suddenly settled down after about three weeks. I realize it's hard to be patient!

Thanks for your reply. It’s great to get some reassurance that the cyroablation will work given sometime 🤞

Mine did a similar thing for about 6 weeks after my ablation. It was mainly PAC's but it was about 6 - 10 per minute. After that, it all calmed down. My resting heart rate went from 59-60 before, to about 75 after. It has taken over a year to come back to normal.

My resting heart has been sitting around 75 since ablation prior to that it was 60/65. Finger crossed everything settles down soon so I can get back to some normality.
