Anyone have experience with soltilol. Have just been put on it and they are keeping me in hospital for three days to monitor it. Had flutter ablation in March and in sinus till this week .raised pulse but question about what rhythm as it looks like sinus. Now trying to get pulse down. was hoping for cardio version not drugs.

I recall being told that I wasn't a suitable candidate for sotalol (or flecainide) as I have a "wide QRS" and the drug can extend the "QT" interval with the potential for ventricular arrhythmias. I would think your doctors want to be sure you are suited to it for similar reasons. I gather all anti-arrhythmic medicines, aside from amiodarone, have this potential.
I had my own ablation for AFl in 2019 and was told that the procedure was almost always completely successful, which it proved to be. However, over the ensuing months, I started to get lots of ectopic beats and mild tachycardia, with, eventually, some occasional AF.

I was started on sotalol in hospital and monitored. It is a chemical cardioversion rather than an electrical one.
I have been on Sotalol for about 5 years but still get attacks of AF every week lasting 3-4 days. I was changed to Flecainide but that made my heart rate too low so put back on Sotalol. I take 120mg twice a day and have asked Cardiologist if there is any other medication I could have but he says the only other alternative is Amiodarone which he won't prescribe because of the side effects.
I refused amiodorone. Was only started on 80 mg but I am in sinus most of the time. Pulse now around 100 . Do you follow the suggested 1hrs before and 2 hrs after meals. Anything you avoid eating like bananas ?
I was unaware of the 1hr before and 2hrs after meals as leaflet says can be taken before, with or after meals. However, cardiologist said it was important to take at regulator intervals so I take at 7am and 7pm and set the alarm on my phone to remind me. Cardiologist also said to eat a banana every day to keep potassium levels up. I don't drink coffee or tea and gave up eating chocolate for 6 months but it made no difference. At the moment I have been in AF for the past 10 days which is the longest I have ever been in AF. Also have a pacemaker to stop my heart rate dropping too low as have AF with tachy/brady syndrome.
I am currently back on 120mg x2 of sotolol after previously having a reduced dose of 80mgx2 following an initially successful ablation. It was not started in hospital and I was very nervous but no problems and it mostly doing it’s job.
Hope this helps

May I ask does Sotolol keep you in NSR ?
My AF is very long standing and is becoming resistant to most drugs but it has kept me in NSR for a good few years and is just about doing so at present. I am on a high ish dose though . 80 mg x2 didn’t really work for me. X
They probably wanted to check your qt interval … l have been on sotalol since my first afib event … maybe five years ago. Love it … zero side effects … occasional breakthroughs … maybe every six months. I recommend it. Best to you. Jan
