Yes. I suffered from a variety of irregular heart rhythms for about 9 months following my ablation for AF.

I had cryo sept 2021. After 4 months or so my Af returned. Maybe look to get a 2nd Rf touch up ablation?

Yes, ectopic beats. Mine came on months after my succesful ablation, which surprised me. However apart from being irritating they did me no harm.

You better ask your medics about them though and get their view, and put your mind at rest.

Ectopics can be PAC s or PVC s. (premature atrial contactions or premature ventricular contractions.)

If they are ectopics they will feel like "missing" beats, very possibly followed by a big beat.

Take your pulse in your left side of your neck, 1 inch below the back corner of your jaw, using your fingers NOT your thumb. If they are ectopics you will feel a run of regular beats then the "missing" beat. The more frequent the missing beat the more irritating they are.

If it is a period of AFib rather than ectopics there will be few if any regular spaced beats and they will be difficult to count. It is a lot different.

The missing beats are not in fact missing, they are an extra beat (premature) which is early so the heart chamber is mostly empty when your heart contracts so you dont feel it in your pulse. The big beat you may feel, I understand us caused following the extra beat the heart tries to get back into rhythm and so delays the next contaction so it is very full when it happens

Two other things:-

1. EVERYONE has some ectopic beats, they are normal. Most people dont notice them as they have not had AFib and are not so heart sensistive. I was terrible at this and I could hear my heart beat at all times so noticed everything. And stressed about it!

2. You called them "palpitations". They are . People without heart rhythm issues get noticable palpitations when they are extremly worried or stressed . They are caused by excess adenaline being released . This is part of the "fight or flight" response to a threat. It is there to help your muscles to fight the hungry wolf that has appeared, or to run away from it! You cant run away from your own heart so the excess adrenaline causes the palpitations, which then causes more stress.... its a vicious circle, and the solution is to stop worrying about it! The ectopics will not go away but they will be less.

So get your doctors view to put your mind more at rest!

Also even after 5 years I do still notice my ectopics sometimes, usually they increase if i get some kind of a virus.

Back post ablation I stopped worrying as I got back into running and the ectopics were not noticable during the run, and nothing horrible happened, and then I ignored them ( mostly!)

On my 12 month post ablation follow up I mentioned them to my EP, who was also totally unconcerned.

I am not medically trained. This is just what happened with me.

Best wishes

Are you taking magnesium taurate? If you're not on warfarin try adding co enzyme Q10 200mg plus, they definitely helped my ectopics post ablation.
