amlodipine and losartan

I have been taking 5mgs Amlodipine and 100 mgs Losartan in morning but after going into atrial fibrillation my blood pressure drops at lunch time. My GP has said to take losartan at night and amlodipine in morning. Has anyone take these medications at different times of day .

Please keep in mind that I have no medical training, but I think your GP has it backward :)

Amlodipine is the stronger of the two blood pressure medications and starts to peak 6 hours after ingestion. So, if you take the Amld in the morning as suggested, its peak action will coincide with your noon bp drop, which you do not want. Sounds like Losartan morning/Amlodipine evening will do what you want.

Maybe gently bring this up with your GP?

I have always taken Losartan at night and I believe that is what it says to do in the enclosed leaflet . I don’t take Amplodipine.

My husband was on Ramipril twice daily, as well as Bisoprolol twice daily. He then developed Angina and they added in Amlodipine once daily. Then he was changed to Losartan once daily as the Ramipril was making him cough. He takes the Amlodipine in the morning and was told to take the Losartan at night. However, this might be because the hospital prescribed Ramipril and Bisoprolol twice daily (2.5mg) but the GP in her wisdom decided to give him 5mg Ramipril once daily and said it wouldn't make any difference. It did though and he felt like he was going to pass out and the chemist and another GP told him to stop immediately and changed him back to the 2.5mg dose. So when his main GP changed him to the Losartan, she told him to take it at night in case it made him feel lightheaded!

Hi I’m taking bisoprolol 2.5 twice daily too as my heart rate is too fast . Probably this us adding to the problem. I am scheduled for a cardioversion on 11th August so hopefully things will settle after that .

Hi

I was given Losartan which is a derivative of metoprolol.

My urine showed great amounts of protein.

I stopped. I had a high Systollic level 140s. It did nothing to reduce it.

So never solved.

I have now been diagnosed with a Soft Systollic Heart Murmur.

Metroprolol is a banned med from my list of allergy. Breathless, no exertion, fatigue.
