I have just read on the internet that losartan 25mgs nd 100mgs is being recalled as it has been discovered during tests that it contains a cancer forming ingredient. Has anyone heard about this as I am very concerned as this is one of the pills I take. Thank you

My dose just been raised to 62.5 MCG.

Are you aware of other side effects?

From what I read, apart from the cancer forming part of it, it could also cause kidney and bladder bleeding. If you can open the link it is quite specific. The only thing it talks about bottles, but mine come in a box. However it is still losartan made by sandoz

May be we should not read info on site , being very prone to anxiety. I know common sense comes into it but, we all fear...

But is Losartan, or some of it, imported from the US?

Apparently it's only the named make that's been voluntary returned I read it in the link Also it's a American manufactory so would depend I guess if your in America

Yes, but I also read it on the Canadian website and also FDA. I have written an email to our pharmacy and he replied that he had heard of it and was going to look into the matter. Will let you know any info

Pharmacist texted me reply and said to take my Losartan back to him. Follow on any news

This doesn't sound good! I had rather assumed that Losartan may well have something carcinogenic but that it would probably take longer to work than I expect to live and it would be no problem.

This article seems to indicate a specific batch is being recalled (manufactured after October 8, 2018). Maybe not time to panic!

yes

The voluntary recall of losartan potassium hydrochlorothiazide by pharmaceutical company Sandoz Inc., is for 100 milligram/25 milligram tablets with the lot number JB8912. - it does seem pretty specific - I have been on Losartan since 1998..

I hadn’t heard about it and am concerned as I also take it. Is this a particular brand of Losartan and are you based in the US?

It appears to be two combined tablets marketed in US. Losartan AND amlodipine in one pill and Losartan, amlodipine and hydrochlorathiazide. Combined pills discouraged on NHS as cost more. Will try and find excerpt from link.

I also received a reply from and he said that Losartan should not be taken with a diuretic as it can harm the kidneys and also cause kidney stones

Yes, it is in many Blood Pressure meds. It's called Valsartan and is mfg in China and India and added to many manufacturers that produce BP pills. Here in the states, they've just had a major recall on many manufactures of BP meds. One of which is named Mylan. There are other mfg's also. Google it and you will be able to find which ones. My pharmacy had already removed all those products when I went in to ask them about it.

The Valsartan is known to cause cancer. Probably not a huge worry, since the pills are so small - just my uneducated opinion

Only certain manufacturers in USA have recalled Losartan, and pharmist would would know this fact, so mine has not been recalled.

Yes my pharmacist has taken my tablets back and given me something else. He said the ones made by Mylan have also been recalled.
