Its a beta blocker but not generally used in AF where bisoprolol seems the go to drug.

Hi Lenlec, yes I take propranolol daily.I was prescribed it for anxiety originally before my AF got diagnosed.

Doctors are very good at dismissing females with just anxiety.

Anyway I was referred to cardiology & it was changed to Bisoprolol which I hated so the cardiologist agreed that I could move back to propranolol.

My episodes of AF are not very frequent so I'm happy to stay as I am & not rock the boat.

My son has SVT & he takes daily propranolol.

I was told I could take up to 3×40 daily & because I was so anxious before diagnosis I took all 3 & now I'm frightened to lower the dose but the cardiologist said that was OK.Not sure what dose my son is on for his SVT

Hi I was on Propranolol for years for stress , without any problems. When I was diagnosed with Af I was told Bisopolol was the best medication for Af.I’ve been using it now for about five years. Take care

It's the original beta-blocker and still is very popular as a drug. For AF, many doctors have moved to newer molecules such as bisoprolol because they are more beta-2 receptor selective so affect other organs less than propranolol. That said, I think the mode of action is similar.

I used to take propranalol but when I had my first attack of AF was immediately taken off of it and put on Bisoprolol.

I was also prescribed propranolol for AF but soon had to take me off them as they played havoc with my Asthma!

I have been on propanolol for 30 years and it keep my HR normal. So when I have afib the HR almost never exceeds 90bpm

Yes, I take it as PiP. I can't tolerate Bisoprolol at all and my regular HR is pretty low (resting in high 40s, low 50s) so if I take Biso at some point I end up barely alive, it feels like. Propanolol really works for me.
