Cardioversion - Overnight

Hi

I’ve been informed my Cardioversion will be in September, woo hoo fingers x, however, I don’t have anyone to say overnight with me afterwards.

Do I really need someone or will they have to admit me for one night, as I don’t want to take up a hospital bed.

Thanks 😊

I'm no medic but having had 24 dccvs over the years I had no problems in the aftermath so I consider they are just covering themselves.Let the hospital know and it will be up to them to decide.

In earlier days I was always kept in overnight following a dccv but things seem to be much more relaxed now. For my most recent one last month I just walked out of the ward to meet my husband in the car park 3/4 hours after the zap under heavy sedation. I wasn't even offered a cup of tea. I thought this was a bit 'off' !!

Be prepared for feeling very tired and of course no driving for 24 hours.

It's very much a sausage machine environment, in and out in 45 minutes. But of course they wouldn't throw you out in the very unlikely event there is a problem.

I live alone, and had two CVs where I was perfectly fine as soon as I got up off the hospital bed and went home; nobody stayed with me afterward.

I was worried they would keep me in hospital, so I asked my friend to stay with me overnight, as she is driving me from the hospital anyway. I understand it's just extra safety measures, not really needed.
