Update…..

Just a quick update. NSR returned 3:30 am. We’re amongst friends here and will embarrassingly tell you it was a “botty burp” that triggered NSR 🤭. I had tried absolutely everything else over the 57 hours. I blame Alcatraz as I call him for starting the episode off as I got very animated in his last set on Sunday as I so wanted him to win. As he won I felt the heart start its own match.

One thing I omitted in my original post is that I have suffered from acid reflux/GERD for many many years. Been down the PPI route and none. It has got worse over the years. Like Afib no triggers and life style good in the main. Have had every test possible and all came back clear except for mild gastritis of no concern. My GP bless her (after retesting everything as it had been a couple of years) said we might as well have CT scan with contrast just to dot the I’s and cross the Ts. Previous GPs at the practice had only gone as far as scopes up and down X-rays and PPIs. Lo and behold they found a Paraduodenal Hernia with a twisted inferior. Apparently this can be from a birth defect or previous surgery but all the cases and info available says people have usually suffered from years and years of intermittent gastrointestinal disturbances, pains, aches, bloating etc ranging from mild to quite debilitating and numerous surgery visits. Tests clear and doctors at a loss. It’s only with a CT scan in A&E or ER usually as an emergency that these hernias are found.

As most of us know gastric issues do play a big part in Afib and palpitations etc. I’m not looking forward to surgery but if repairing the hernia eases the reflux then hopefully/maybe it will ease Afib burden too for a while. Without the dogged determination of my GP this would never have been found and I could have ended up in serious trouble especially if it strangulated. I am so so grateful to her and the NHS.

Thanks for reading.

Good luck with the surgery. Bet your GP got a surprise too. Amazing what turns up when the right tests are done.

Hope the surgery goes well and that fixing the gastrointestinal problem helps with the Afib. I call him Alcatraz too.

Hi

All the best.

I had been fighting reflux and acid stomach since 4 years.

At aged 50 years with all clear for bowel and colon. throat to stomach and scan gzll bladder showed little balls. "They wont hurt you"!

Then I enquired family.

Told them that my grandfather had his out!

Push ing me into theatre, my surgeon beside me asked have I tried Gaviston!

I replied"Mr Dwyber you should see my cabinet in bathroom. Chalksm anti acidm Ragwood I think $20 bottle..."

Then he checked on me after operation.

"You have 6 other potholes. Your gall bladder was disintegrated and I had to pick the bits off surrounding organs"!.

Since then 100% better.

You will be too.
