Hello there.

Usually taking any new medication can have some side effects but everyone is different. Try to give it a few weeks to settle down.

Bisoprolol is known for tiredness; I've been on a low dose of 1.25 for 18 months and I still get tired, although for me it could be a combination of the meds I'm on!

What dose of Bisoprolol are you taking and is it once or twice a day?

I was also on that l ow dose after a heart attack. It slowed my heart down and dropped my BP so low I couldn't tolerate it at all. I was sleeping almost all day. However for most people those side effects only last a couple of weeks until your body adapts

Hi

I take 2.5 at night for BP. No reaction to H/R as it stays at 47 average when I am asleep.

I go to sleep for an hour at news time daily if I have exerted myself but it is 24 hours after this med. I'm about to have another!

Try taking med at night.

That's a really low dose. Are you absolutely sure it's the Bisoprolol? If so just give it a few weeks and see if they settle down. X

Everybody is different. I seem to cope okay on 1.25mg a day, but moving to 2.5mg absolutely floored me, I had awful headaches, tiredness, etc. Back to 1.25mg and I was okay again. My GP told me 2.5mg is pretty low and was surprised by my bad reaction.

I had the same reaction to 2.5. Turned me into a zombie.

Best of luck with it! From what I’ve seen on this thread, many do adjust. I didn’t. I was on it for almost 5 months. I had numerous symptoms- fatigue, increased ectopics and back pain. Fully normalized after stopping it.

Before bisoperal the two different pills concked me out for 51/2 months,…everyone is different.. …..and other people have had same problem

tiredness is common with bisoprolol. leave it a few weeks and things will hopefully improve. If not there is other medication your doctor can try.👍 Iv been on 10mg daily for a long time now and could sleep on a galloping hedgehog sometimes.! Best wishes.Ron.

Thank you Jet Cat for planting this wonderful image in my mind - sleeping on a galloping hedgehog! I’m about to start bisoprolol and I’m quite chronically a poor sleeper - so I shall be harnessing up that hedgehog! 😂

hi rainy,

It made me tired for a few months but I was in a higher dose, they then reduced to your dose 1.25…..that was much better for me, but it deffo has to settle in your system it’s a funny drug so give it a month….just dint push yourself thru the tiredness it’s not worth it…go with the body,

Sue

I am on 5 mg daily for 7 years to prevent SVT (started with 2.5 mg). I experienced fatigue and feeling "off" for the first week, but after that the drug has been very effective for me, without side effects. Tip: try taking the drug at different times of the day to see if this reduces side effects. Once you figure out the optimal time of day for you, stick to it.

Hi Rainy, I tried bisoprolol, but it made my heart rate so low doing anything was a massive effort. I stopped taking it and now avoid this drug. My heart rate is controlled with Flecanide and diet changes.

I would say that 2-4 weeks with a new drug is long enough for most symptoms to disappear, so after that time, if not before depending on the severity, I would definitely ask your GP as there are alternatives, even different drugs called calcium agonists such as diltiazem.

Hi Rainy, I started on Bisoprolol many years ago but felt like a Zombie. My EP switched me onto Tildiem Retard, which is a calcium channel blocker, and I got the old me back! You shouldn't accept fatigue as a long-term status. Give the bisoprolol a go but as others have said, there are other options.

Have you taken your pulse? The doc wanted me to take 2.5mg of Bisoprolol daily but I pointed out I was very sensitive to drugs so she agreed to 1.25 and didn’t even arrange a follow up appointment but the pharmacist took my number and told me he’d ring in a week to see how I was getting on and to contact him if I had any problems before then. As I started feeling tired with reduced energy I popped in to see. He took my pulse and told me to stop taking it immediately! And the doc agreed! It sounds as if you are in a similar position. Good luck!!

My GP told me, and not in jest, that 1.25 of bisop was a placebo and didn't actuallly do anything. Bisop does make you tired and GP suggested taking it at night, might help with tiredness, seemed to work for me on larger dose.

Why do GPs always think that? Mine said similar too, they need to try it themselves and see, then they might not think it’s a placebo…..

Good evening Rainy111. I was on Bisoprolol 2.5mg for over 12 months and had to stop taking it finally. I had breathlessness on the slightest exertion, I was listless and wanted to do no more than sit each day. I put on a stone in weight too. Fast forward to 3 years later, today I have walked 12,782 steps (I usually walk somewhere around 10,000 daily). I have lost 2 stone in weight over those 3 years and I am no longer breathless. The Bisoprolol was substituted with Adizem which thankfully, I tolerate well. My Cardiologist did say that Bisoprolol would be the medication of his choice but I could no longer continue living like a zombie. 🐝
