Hi Kalgs I’m on 1.25 daily but only been on them under a month. They do make me tired though. I’m still under investigation so they may increase my dose once l have had my angiogram. So far l have been diagnosed with ectopics.

Hey I’ve been recently diagnosed with ectopics and on Bisoprolol 1.25mg once a day. I’ve found I am quite tired but my ectopics are a lot less than what they were and I slept through the night last night after suffering constantly with Ectopics for 6 weeks. Hope you are ok?

Hi loulou2013 I’m pleased to hear your doing well with the bisoprolol, I’m having a 24 hour ecg on Tuesday then the cardiologist is going to come up with a plan !

Hey how long have you had ectopics for? Has it been confirmed where it’s coming from? Mine is ventricular ectopics. I’m awaiting an MRI scan as well to rule out anything sinister the cardiologist said. He was saying I’m young (43! 🤪) and shouldn’t be getting these so wanted to ensure nothing was wrong with my heart. I’ve had an ultrasound which came back as good so I’m not too concerned. Just nice to be able to rest without my heart having a disco in my chest. Also have had slight rib soreness where it’s been so bad. 😞

Hi loulou2014 I’ve had ectopic beats for years and they have always said there nothing to worry about it’s very common ! However back in March I suffered a mild heart attack and they don’t know why as angiogram showed arteries are clear ! Now they want to see why I have such a lot of ectopic beats so doing a lot of investigations and then gonna pass me on to a specialist! Hope your mri is good and all ok for you !

Hi kalgs, I started off (last June) on 5mg once a day of Bisoprolol. This sent my BP and heart rate much too low and I felt dizzy when standing up. This was reduced to 2.5mg once a day but my GP said I could split this into 1.25mg twice a day so that is what I did. This kept my BP and heart rate in reasonable ranges. I feel that I am still a little tired but your body does get used to it. The thing is we all react differently and whilst some people can tolerate 10mg a day others find 1.25mg too much. Some people swear by Bisopropol and some think they are an invention of the Devil. If the cardiologist suggested you try them (presumably for rate control?) then why not give them a try you can always change if they don't help or the side effects are too much. Steve

So far as I know, bisoprolol has a long half-life and needs to be given only once daily. I wonder why your doctor is advising a different dosage?

I’m on 5 mgs twice a day which I think is quite common started on 1.25 twice a day 18 months ago

From what I can see, once a day is the recommended dose except for some patients with kidney problems. Doctors often have their own ways though.

What time are you taking your two doses? My doc prescribed 5 mg twice a day. My BP increases throughout the day and is highest in evening before bed.

I did take mine 5 mgs 8am and 8 pm but I was reduced to 2.5 which saw an increase in my incidents and after my ablation I felt so bad it was increased to 2.5 twice a day but I’m now back to 2.5 I take around 8 am if that’s helpful

Thank you. This is helpful. Hope you have continued improvement. I’m learning BP is complicated to control.

I’m 8 weeks post ablation a challenging time but only just feeling I’m improving so fingers crossed. Hope you get sorted quickly esp around your BP

It’s quite common to give twice daily My cardiology consults all 3 of them including one being a EP consultant has prescribed twice daily……think they are the ones I’d follow for advice as each person is different

I think it’s doctors that differ more than patients! 😉

Yep, for a long time now. I started on 1.25 once a day for two weeks and then was put onto 2.5mg. That night I couldn't even climb the stairs so I called the GP and was told to revert to 1.25. Months later, my EP said "that's too low a dose, try taking them twice a day" and I've been doing that without issues ever since.

I get the impression here that 1) everyone responds slightly differently and dosage needs to be adjusted to suit 2) after a few days/weeks of taking them, tolerance rises and it's a good idea to review the dose then.

BTW, it's one of those drugs that once started, you cannot suddenly stop. You need to be carefully weaned off it, if necessary.

Hi I take 10mg in the morning and 5mg early evening. I've been in permanent AF since June 2019. They control my hr well, I'm tired most of the time but I don't know if that's the bisoprolol as I take morphine too and I'm not a great sleeper but it could possibly contribute to my utter lethargy.

Yes. 1.25 is my dose and though it is the lowest dose I still feel very underpowered in the first few hours after taking it. Fatigue seems to wear off after that. Unfortunately the doctor says you need Bisoprolol as a rate control drug if you also - as I do- take Flecainide for rhythm control. Been on it 6 years now as well as BP drugs Indapamide and ACE inhibitors.
