Just wondered if anyone has any issues with their hair with taking Apixaban? I havent noticed any hair loss but my hair is definitely not in such good condition in fact its really dry. Has anyone else noticed this. I have been on it for about 4 months. Any suggestions as to anything I could take if Apixaban does cause some sort of deficiency? thanks!

Apixaban and hair
I've been taking Apixaban for nearly 10 years and I've noticed my hair in worse condition - drying, breaking and thinning. Somewhere I read that Apixaban could make hair more brittle but a poster recently thought that a beta blocker was the culprit.
I now keep my hair trimmed short, block cut and don't use anything harsh on it such as heated rollers or hot blow dries. I also use a heat protection spray (when I remember). It seems to have helped with the brittleness and the snowstorm of broken hair seems to have lessened considerably.
A good conditioner may help too - something I don't use any more.

Anticoagulants often cause problem with hair and nails. My hair if fine but my nails very brittle and split for a living which when working with metal and tools is irritating.
Hi BobD I wonder why that is I have read it can cause problems with iron absorption maybe that's it. Im going to try the nutritional route with a dietitian I want to be as well as possible on these. Thank you for this
I have no problems with hair or nails - been on Apixaban for 5 years.
Thanks Gincalpe, it could be of course something else I guess.
Hi Gincalpe I meant to ask you as well do you take any supplements?
I haven’t had a problem with hair but I’ve noticed my nails very brittle.
Hi Exmouth thanks for your reply,... do you take any supplements?
No I don’t I did used to take magnesium but for some reason I stopped. I have been thinking to starting again I’m not a fan of taking tablets of any sort , in saying that I take my Apixaban and Bisopolol religiously. I have really thick hair so perhaps I wouldn’t notice a small loss. Take care
No Im the same I try to eat healthily which I think is probably better. Thanks!
Hmm..thought thin hair aging but hey who knows could be meds.
My hair started disappearing about 73 years ago and I've been on Apixaban for 4 years so no connection as far as I'm concerned. Dr asked if I wanted to try a year long course of injections when my body hair started to go as well about 50 years ago but I declined as I don't value my hair that much. My nails do grow very quickly and thick though in compensation. I do value the Apixaban protecting me from a stroke though.
All the best.

Hi
Try using Tea Tree Shampoo and end with Morroccan Oil. I do.
But I'm on PRADAXA 110mg x twice.

Hi, I've been on Apixaban for around four years. I don't know if it's connected but my hair condition isn't what it was. It's dry and brittle and it has thinned considerably. I have a hunch that one of my medications is to blame.
Hi hard to know isn't it it might be another medication I guess if you're on something else as well. I'm on Thyroxine so I do notice that this has happened on occasions before. Maybe im just connecting it to the Apixaban because I haven been on it for very long. Thanks for your reply
