Still waiting for an urgent appointment

I posted 2 weeks ago about waiting 3 weeks for an urgent appointment with the cardiologist. Well, I'm still waiting. My GP has written to the cardiologist stating the urgency. I have rung his secretary and she says he is aware of it. Meanwhile, I just wait. I cannot be referred to the long covid clinic until I have seen the cardiologist. I'm getting more depressed.

that is terrible. Can you say you’ll take short notice cancellations?

sounds like this doctor is not who you want to see. He could be deciding if it’s truly ‘an emergency.’ I would not see someone with this attitude. Find another cardiologist or go to ED. I’m in the states and my son, 40, had first AF happen and he was immediately put on Elequis at least with a monitor on. Scary for him and me.

After being diagnosed in hospital recently, they wrote to my gp saying I need ‘an urgent cardiologist appointment’ I asked my gp how soon would ‘an urgent’ app be. I was told weeks instead of over 12 months for normal waiting. It took about 8 weeks to hear anything. I then got an app to go for an echocardiogram. Went there on 3rd May. Told results be back 7-10 days. Rang gp after 2 weeks. No results. 3 weeks no results. I ended up going privately as I’ve lost all faith in nhs.

Echocardiogram with them showed my heart in full working order.

Still haven’t heard from gp. It’s disgraceful

Good luck

Afraid the NHS is almost finished. As well as the heart problems, I also have a very swollen and painful knee. Saw the orthopaedic consultant in December, had to wait until April for MRI, still waiting for results. Over a year since I was referred.

At 59, my sister in law had knee issues - ended up walking with a stick & in constant pain. Her GPs NHS request for an MRI was turned down. She went private, her MRI showed the knee was rubbing bone on bone and had gone so far now that only a total, rather than partial, knee replacement was an option. Cost her an arm and a leg (no pun intended). The NHS, sadly, is no longer fit for purpose.
