hi Cat

What does a flutter cause ? Is it bad what can side effects of a flutter be ?

Cat04 in reply tomjm1971

My atypical atrial flutter was running at approx 120 bpm with resultant shortness of breath, chest pain and fatigue. I saw my GP who did the above ecg, was sent home to review after a few days and eventually was told by gp's receptionist to call 999. Taken to hosp by ambulance & admitted. Subsequent echo showed my left atrium dilated and other abnormal measurements. Despite different drug treatments I remained in flutter for approx 6 months until the doctors got the drug dosages right and it stopped. Since had surgical ablation and LAA clip.Atypical atrial flutter felt like hell for me!

No. Yours has no p-waves and is going at twice the number of beats per minute.

I don't have p waves but do have afib your ecg looks nice and regular but this is only my opinion not flutter

I see P waves, and measure the rate at ~54bpm. To my eyes this looks like NSR, as near as can be seen from just a one lead trace.

SeanJax profile image

it is sinus rhythm. P waves are there.

hi Sean , what are P waves ? Are they good or bad ?

move on. Your ecg is absolutely normal.

what is the heart rate? Looks low. What did Apple Watch say it was?

mjm1971 profile image
mjm1971 in reply tomjames1

my heart rate averages at 48bpm at rest . No one seems concerned but I must say I don’t feel it should quite that low

mjames1 profile image
mjames1 in reply tomjm1971

That ekg is from Apple WAtch? Did it say afib or normal rhythm?

mjm1971 profile image
mjm1971 in reply tomjames1

Yes it’s Apple Watch and says NSR

mjames1 profile image
mjames1 in reply tomjm1971

It also looks like NSR to me. Only rarely will flutter present at such a low rate. That said, if symptomatic, or concerned about your low pulse, speak to your doctor.

My hr can be as low as 43 but it comes out about the same as yours, nobody has ever queried it,and I'm absolutely fine.

That HR measures at 54bpm. (5.6 large squares between R peaks.)

P waves are the little blip before the main wiggle (p qrs t) and mean NSR . Reading ECGs is a highly skilled job which none of us here are qualaified to comment on. Many Gps get it wrong so ask your EP.

Completely normal. You heart rate is in the range 50bpm - 60bpm and regular.

Hi Matt,

This is my home ECG I did back in February before I went into A&E as had had this for 5 hours at 150bpm. It self converted after 7 hours. Yours looks like sinus rhythm, but what was your HR?

Home you are ok now.

Wendy

Atrial Flutter diagnosed by ER in February. HR 150 bpm for 7 hours.

Hi, you say hour HR is about 48, this would usually mean you are a regular hard exerciser. If you are not it may need investigating. My personal experience was HR around 55 which I thought was as aresult of lifelong exercise, but turned out it was a leaky heart valve which had to be repaired. My docs said they were happier if my rate was around 60-70 and I now have a pacemaker to stop it going below 60. Also I'm 74 so age makes a difference.

looks great to me - in sinus rhythm and a healthy P way showing 👌

That notch in the R wave could be a benign LBBB. Have it looked at by an EP. Goodness knows how you to do that though.I have BBB that causes my Bradycardia.

The notching in the R-S segment is one thing that I also noticed straight away. It’s something you’ll need to get checked out preferably on a 12 lead ECG as there may be reciprocal changes on the other leads that can give a better overview. Only someone with an experienced and qualified eye can tell you whether this has a ‘benign’ cause or whether further investigations are warranted.
