I had an ECG yesterday. I had only a glimpse of the chart and on it was 'Inferior Infart'. Does anyone know what this means?
Thanks,
Paul.

If this was part of the automatic machine print out I would ignore it and wait for the doctors appraisal. These computer generated things are notoriously wrong.
Thanks for that. It was on the printout. All that happened was my verapamil was increased to 240mg/day.
I definitely agree. The machines are notoriously bad at reading things. You MAY have had some abnormality in the inferior leads (that show the electrical signals to the inferior part of the heart). Could have been elevated ST segment, or depressed ST segment, or some other abnormal read. Regardless, the machine is only able to determine basic read, but it may be your normal baseline, in which case, what the machine says doesn't matter. If it were something super concerning, a good ECG tech would have alerted the doctor for follow up. I tend to over think things. I wouldnt recommend it.
why you don’t post your ecg here?
I would most definitely be asking about this as an inferior infarct does show on an ECG and you ought to know why it showed and what it means.
Steve
Mine invariably show a prior infarct in one place or another. My EP says it is because the techs have not properly placed the leads. I wouldn't give it another thought. Here is a recent example: ATRIAL FIBRILLATION
LOW VOLTAGE QRS
CANNOT RULE OUT ANTERIOR INFARCT , AGE UNDETERMINED
ABNORMAL ECG
WHEN COMPARED WITH ECG OF 18-MAR-2023 10:25,
ATRIAL FIBRILLATION HAS REPLACED SINUS RHYTHM
agree with all the answers above I had an ECG in A and E last Saturday which said Ischemia and a nurse came nd asked me if I had chest pain and I sid no. I have a copy of the ECG and they had written 'No check pain " on it and weren't bothered by it!! Just ask at follow up
Hello
I would agree with all the other comments on these software generated reports.
They are for guidance only and probably for non-specialists to get an idea what they might indicate.
When I saw the list of of possible problems attached to a recent 12 lead ECG, it looked like a who's who of heart defects, including the dreaded infarcts.
Fortunately the GP realised I had a pacemaker and the panic was over.
Shame that the software doesn't include possible pacing device.
Yes I think you are right. When I first went into A&E and they saw the 12 lead egg they rushed me through to resuscitation thinking i was about to have a heart attack. When they realised I had a pacemaker they relaxed somewhat.
