Hi Lumps, my first question is have you had your thyroid function tested? I was feeling abnormally tired, if I wanted to do anything it had to be in the morning as by afternoon I needed to sleep. An underactive thyroid was the cause for me and taking medication for that has given me my life back.
Have you had any routine blood tests at all lately, if not I think asking your GP for one could help.
Jean
not sure breathless get’s me down I know that slows me down probably more psychological at times
What about medication? Beta blockers can make people feel wiped out. It might be an idea to have some more blood tests to rule out anaemia or B12 deficiency.
All I can say is that you SHOULD be sleeping 7-8 hours - sleep is essential for good health. Many people would love to have 7-8 hours sleep.
What were you used to?
If you said that you were sleeping more than 10 hours in 24 then I would want investigations.
Well,I would be grateful to sleep that long at night! Are you tired during the day as well?
Check out thyroid and anaemia otherwise, well that's fine !
I'm certain that AF meds can have that effect. I sleep 7 hours a night, usually, but still don't feel as refreshed as before. Next time you get your bloods, make sure they check your folate level (Vitamin B9). Last year mine was very low, it's possibly down to the vaccines is one theory being put forward, as it's a 'thing' in recent times. One symptom is leg pain. I got a course of high strength folate tablets on prescription (like 10 times the folic acid tabs you can buy over the counter), then rechecked.
I agree sleeping 7-8 hours is a good thing! But of course it's how you feel during the day that matters. Especially if you wake up feeling exhausted. Many people in the UK are low on vitamin D so do get those minerals tested and I'd be asking for my thyroid function to be tested too. Things can change within 6 months.
If it is something that persists for more than, say, a month or two, I would ask your GP if you can be checked for obstructive sleep apnoea since all else seems normal (blood tests, etc). This is very common in people with AF, I gather, and leads to feeling washed out. If you have a husband or partner who is there enough to notice, you might ask them if they feel you sleep well without snoring a lot or pausing to breath regularly. You could mention this, then also, to your doctor.
My own sleep is poor, and I envy those who sleep well as I spend my waking life feeling tired, so I do sympathise with how you feel. It can be awful.
Steve
I have this and many’s a day where I just feel tired pretty much all day - I think this is due to Sleep and a lot of night go into AFib when asleep so my thinking is this might well affect the quality of sleep even when I don’t wake up - when I woke sometimes and feel I’ve had a good sleep this tiredness isn’t there after being up for 15 mins or so
I get soooo tired with my AF, and I’m sleeping well, find it hard to get going in the morning!
hi lumps, I’m tired all time full stop.!!! Had bloods done recently and all good.! Taking my bisoprolol doesn’t help I think too.? Once I finish work I have a shower and tea then in bed for 9.00 sometimes earlier.
Sometimes I’m that tired I could quite easily sleep on a galloping hedgehog.?
I was soooo tired when my potassium level was high
Have you changed medications, or began taking your regular ones at a different time of day? Seven to 8 hours sleep is healthy, but if you feel tired during the daytime then something's up. Have you tried exercising? You may feel tired doing it at first, but it gets your oxygen going to your muscles and fires up your energy -- just a thought . I hope you find a solution.
I rarely sleep less than 9 hours at night plus usually need an hour in the afternoon. Could the Bisophol make you sleep more. Mind I have always slept a lot even before being diagnosed with AF & SSS. I have also always been quite active and am not overweight etc (64kg)
