Thanks for posting. Talks just VTach, not afib, but hopefully this technology might some day work for afib as well.

Yes. Of interest is the result of misfiring cells repairing themselves as a result of the treatment. Something to watch!

It will be an uphill battle with the device makers and ep's pushing back.

Interesting..... Still would scare me to death. What's not mentioned is the scar tissue radiation causes which continue to build over years. Not just the heart but any muscles contract from the danage. I'd be very scared of going down this route. . Need an awful lot more research. You can't repair tissue that's been radiated only cut it out. So in order to get to the heart the radiation has to pass through skin, muscle, bones. The effects of radiation builds for years afterwards. I've had radiation for cancer.. Lastly you can't have more than a certain amount in your whole life.

Yes, I would be very wary too. I had radiation for BC in 2009 and 10 years later I have DCM probably caused by radiation therapy according to my cardiologist.

Excuse my ignorance but may I ask what's DCM?

Am so sorry radiotherapy.affected you. My Afib is due to cardiotoxicity from cancer treatment. I also had breast reconstruction so my surgeon told me he would be able to cut away the damaged tissue from radiotherapy. Am so grateful to him as I don't have the pain & restricted range of movement I once had.

Sorry. DCM is Dilated Cardiomyopathy, where the chamber of the heart is weakened and doesn't pump efficiently. There is no treatment, just meds to support. So pleased your surgeon was able to treat you.

I am so sorry to hear that. I have left ventricle damage as well also from cancer treatment but currently mild. No cure. Not had the op yet. On waiting list...

That's a pretty neat article, thanks for sharing! Of particular note is that the in the electrical pathways are NOT due to ablation type scarring, but rather a specific genetic remodeling in the heart muscle cells. Good science!

It’s certainly promising but it’s going to take time to know how effective it is and who it’s suitable for.

Hi

Thanx.

Actually it was a Jade (also my granddaughter's name) who saw a 'shadow' on my thyroid whilst doing my carotid arteries' scan.

But radiation can cause leukaemia.

I declined RAI after removal of thyroid cancer - papiliary in 2020 March and the 3rd yearly scan was clear.

It was an interesting article nevertheless.

cheers JOY. 74. (NZ)
