Afternoon all, today’s 6 weeks post ablation and woke up this morning with irregular fast heart rate but heart beating normal no erratic beats, took my beta blocker which slowed my heart rate but still having irregular beats, got GP appointment tomorrow just want to ask is this common post ablation even though I taken by beta blocker?

Am still getting them mate 5 months on, had to rest last night, was feeling tired yesterday and it felt really uncomfortable last night then realised was getting irregular little fluttering, and feel wiped out today. See how you feel after resting, I think the anxiety for me of dreading having afib after thinking your fixed makes it worse than it is.

Totally with you 100% is sometimes I feel I wish I never went through with the ablation and after my beta blocker I thought things would settle down thanks again Ian 👍🏼

I know how you feel, I was just thinking I was going well and then last night I got that awful feeling in the pit of my stomach when it's jittery, and the here we go again let down sensations and mild panic it initiated . Going through what we have I suppose we are also extra sensitive to it coming back.

It's a bloody cruel condition for sure, for me a godsend over the past 5 months had been the diazapam 5mg on only 3 occasions I've taken when feeling that way , which my EP said can help with the feelings you get If afib makes you feel like I do, so when I have been very worked up by it and anxious and it's helped me relax, and so far kept my heart rate down by keeping the adrenaline at bay which is my biggest enemy, always has been.

I know some advocate deep breathing etc, personally for me none of that works, so it's whatever can help you keep calm is the key, easier said than done.

I agree sometimes I do wonder if it's worth the ablation, but I know I am better than I was, and I was told it could mean 2 ablations I need so keeping fingers crossed it's doesn't but prepared if it does , I'd have one again tomorrow if needs be as it was a reasonably straightforward procedure and I trust my EP implicitly.

Cheers Ian, I was on diazepam for my anxiety I got addicted to them starting taking 2 or 3 tablets a days they just calmed me down straight away, GP wouldn’t give me any more

Also was going to ask you are you taking any magnesium supplements? I want to start taking one but don’t know which one

Ianp66 profile image
Ianp66 in reply toPadayn01

I take the Cardio Vascular Research, magnesium taurate mate, on amazon prime £38 for 180 its white bottle, Red CR on front, one a night before bed as within 20mins it makes you heavy eyed 😂

Oh yes i do remember you saying cheers Ian, good stuff than i take it? lol

Ianp66 in reply toPadayn01

Does me good mate, I also buy the medical grade Epsom salts off amazon, put two cupfulls in my bath every night, that's got magnesium present, and is great for aches and pains and again I think sleep or calming, might be placebo, but it's helped me regardless.

Padayn01 profile image
Padayn01 in reply toIanp66

I think i defo purchase a bottle of that magnesium the reviews are very good

Thank you Ian fully means a lot to me mate

Anytime mate, I also do deep breathing which Jean described on here before which also seems to drop my pulse quite a bit when its a little high.

How long do you in the bath with the epsom salt?

Ianp66 profile image
Ianp66 in reply toCeelos81

About half an hour I usually soak a bit

Ceelos81 profile image
Ceelos81 in reply toIanp66

I also read it’s a laxitve is that only if you drink it? I’d hate to be awake all night in the bathroom😖😂 and I’m on a beta blocker. Would the epsom salt be ok to soak in it

Ianp66 profile image
Ianp66 in reply toCeelos81

Laxative 😂😂😂😂, it can be if you take too much orally, hence the one before bed, I'm on a beta blocker and am fine with it . The salts aren't ingested so can bath on a bucketful if you like won't do anything but make you float, dead sea like 😂

The one that’s available here in the US Amazon is made by sky organic

You can also get magnesium oils, sprays and creams. I often use them for cramp especially if driving long distances.

Padayn01 profile image
Padayn01 in reply toBobD

Which magnesium you use bobd?

BobD profile image
BobDVolunteer in reply toPadayn01

I buy cheapo from Holland and Barrett. Take too much and you can't leave the house!

Padayn01 profile image

Brilliant cheers for that bobd

What’s the dangers if you take to much? Damage to any vital organs?

BobD profile image
BobDVolunteer in reply toPadayn01

Don't temp me to be rude here but yes I suppose it is a vital organ since so many people talk out of theirs. lol 😂 Too much magnesium and you will be sitting on the toilet for hours.

My cardiologist was happy for me to have Diazapam as needed - only used 1 tablet in 6months but, it did help. Can relate to all you have written - that dreaded feeling in the stomach in particular at the start of AF

Ianp66 profile image
Ianp66 in reply toGowers

It's that fight or flight feeling I suppose isn't it, not as bad as it used to be after many experiences , but never fails to make you feel vulnerable and small. But, we all fight and get in with it, and this group is fantastic for honesty and sharing it makes it better.

Ceelos81 in reply toPadayn01

Why, was the ablation a bad experience?

Padayn01 profile image
Padayn01 in reply toCeelos81

Well the ablation itself was horrible as i was awake through the whole thing, but its just afterwards loads of skipped beats than irregular and fast heart rate this morning, just hope there is light at the end of the tunnel

Ceelos81 profile image
Ceelos81 in reply toPadayn01

Oh wow, so sedation is not the way to go then?

Ianp66 profile image
Ianp66 in reply toCeelos81

I was awake during my ablation but didn't find it that bad I have to say , I was off my trolley most of it with medazlyn etc, best day out in ages since I stopped drinking 😂

😂😂😂

Padayn01 profile image
Padayn01 in reply toCeelos81

They said it’s better if you are awake to me

Ianp66 profile image
Ianp66 in reply toPadayn01

I got told the same, less Risk and has benefits over anaesthetic.

Gowers profile image
Gowers in reply toPadayn01

I thought they topped up sedation if necessary - sounds like you weren't given enough sedation?

Padayn01 profile image
Padayn01 in reply toGowers

Only sedation I had was to numb the area where I had the catheter inserted

Gowers profile image
Gowers in reply toPadayn01

I didn't know it was done without sedation, must have been quite a ordeal

Padayn01 profile image
Padayn01 in reply toGowers

Horrible mate nearly 3 hours

Gowers profile image
Gowers in reply toPadayn01

Wow! 3 hours. Were you not offered sedation/ga?

Padayn01 profile image
Padayn01 in reply toGowers

Nope nothing I asked them they said it’s better if you are awake

Ianp66 profile image
Ianp66 in reply toPadayn01

Jeez Pad didn't know you had no sedation at all , I was zonked from the word go , don't know how you did it with nothing at all. No wonder it was an ordeal, even though I was near 7 hours, even a couple of hours I'd want a bucketful to take the edge off. No wonder you are traumatised by it all, hope your runs have subsided a little since earlier, I must admit I couldn't do it without any sedation.

Padayn01 profile image
Padayn01 in reply toIanp66

Yeah thanks Ian yeah I had nothing at all it was horrible 9:20am I went in didn’t come out to 12:20 pm and the first thing I said is how the f##k can people do this more than once lol

Ianp66 profile image
Ianp66 in reply toPadayn01

Not surprised, christ, I was in stringfellows on the best bubbly with Claudia Schiffer and your left in the foyer with Jimmy Crankie 😂, even with the drugs they gave me it was bad enough a memory . No way would I ever let them operate on me without happy juice, how you feeling now any better?

Padayn01 profile image
Padayn01 in reply toIanp66

Ahhhhhh mate that made me laugh stringfellows brilliant, yeah Ian at around 1:30pm the irregular heartbeats started to slow down and been ok since just been exhausted this morning how are you feeling mate?

Ianp66 profile image
Ianp66 in reply toPadayn01

Better thanks Pad, think last night was coming down with a bit of a cold, so I'm guessing it was just that, as I've been feeling great recently, and historically if I get a cold, flu,bug or virus it seems to irritate the dicky ticker 😂. Thought that would change with the ablation, maybe too soon, or maybe it's how it is who knows . Brilliant that it's subsided for you, hope it behaves itself , take it easy mate I bet your exhausted off it all.
