Good luck with that one Shelly. Iv been suffering this since February after HA. I pass out with mine. They might try you on meds to lower heart rate but that doesn't help when it goes low too. I'm availing a reveal device being fitted as portable monitors aren't giving them enough info. I'm just very symptomatic to drugs so hopefully you'll be able to take them. Lots managecvery well on them. I don't have a murder so don't know what treatment is for that. Keep the faith but dont hesitate going to a&e if your worried
my bloods are ok, and i have had the 24 monitor which will have caught it as its everyday
just waiting for results
It can sometimes be difficult to get a definitive diagnosis Shelly and you really should push to have a monitor as suggested by BobD. Because the main risk associated with AF is the increased risk of stroke, I suggest you discuss this as soon as possible with your doctors as protection against this might be a good idea. I hope you get some clarification soon, you may be surprised to know, but there are well over 1 million folk with AF in the UK and the vast majority manage to lead relatively normal lives once their treatment plan is in place....
To assess your risk of stroke, you can calculate your CHA2DS2VASC score, to help decide whether you need an anticoagulant.
You can buy a Kardia heart monitor for £100 and print out the recordings to show the doctor. This gets round the frequently normal Holter heart monitor problem.
A one off appointment with an electrophysiologist EP is well worth the £150, but the private tests are exorbitant. You can still get those done on the NHS afterwards. This gets round the sometimes appalling wait to see an NHS EP.
GPs can not prescribe some drugs you may need, and you may anyway need a pacemaker at some point.
I have had af sine 21 now 41 was sort of controlled with ramipril and sotatol but so far last 10 day been getting heart rates from 39 to 130 on,yes lasting secs but kicking in and out right through out day some time waking me at night too
Waiting on another 24 hour monitor but that could be weeks away
Hope you get some answers soon as I really hate the feelings in the chest I get its so nice when it gives me a break for a bit.
