I am new to this forum. I have a 2 lead pacemaker (11 years ago). I was diagnosed with AF 4 years ago (I am now 78) and was on 150mg fleainide which worked well. Last December I had an attach of AF which caused me to lie down. This was after vigorous exercise so I saw my GP who told me to stop exercising and referred me to a consultant but no appointment came. Late March I had sudden, prolonged and repeated sessions of AF. I went to A&E twice and saw my consultant and am now on 300mg Flecainide and Verapamil 240mg. I am still getting AF almost daily but at a lower heart rate (100+ bpm instead of 140bpm). The readout from my pacemaker said I had had 700 episodes in the past year (which I had not noticed) and 2000 in the previous week! 3 weeks previous to these attacks I had a nasty virus (not Covid) and I am wondering if this could have provoked the AF and is it likely to subside again over time.

Any inflamation will exacerbate AF so wait and see how things settle down.
Good Morning Pab1, and welcome to the forum.
Being under the weather with a virus can takes it toll on the body as a whole and so may have been a trigger for your AF episodes. Best to do as you are, keeping an eye on things and of course speaking to your GP if things don't settle down and are causing you concern.
Please feel free to contact our Patient Services Team should you have any questions or would like their advice or support regarding AF : 01789 867 502 or email: info@afa.org.uk
