when to go to A&E

hi All

so after being in permanent AF since September last year I have had a good couple of months

By good I mean I went from permanent AF to once a week for 20 mins with a resting rate of 52bpm

I’ve deliberately lost 3 stone since last October and I put me coming of permanent AF down to this and have been very happy .

then the sledgehammer happens last Thursday and ive been in AF since then with a BPM of circa 100 -115 BPm .

this morning I started out on 79bpm and done my usual 20 minute walk to work

since then and for the last 30 minutes I have been sat down and been getting light headed waves every few minutes that last 15 to 20 seconds

BPM going from circa 90 to 140bpm according to Apple Watch

I feel fine other than these but should I hit panic button or just sit it out for a while and see what happens ?

Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt

Many years ago I had what you are now experiencing and it wore me out. I would contact your GP asap and hopefully he can prescribe some medication to calm your heart rate.

We all have different levels of acceptance (coping) and generally speaking A and E is the last place to be but any fainting , chest pain or difficulty breathing should be checked out,.

That sounds exhausting. If it were me I'd contact your cardiologists secretary & explain. You could try your GP.....but Monday morning is notorious time to try.. I wouldn't leave it because it's a change & needs checking out.

just so gutted as thought the weight loss had really made a difference and at least took me out of permanent AF and back to part time Af and now I’m experiencing my worse 1 hour of AF since I was diagnosed 2 years ago .

It's strange isn't it but your good weight loss can only be of benefit to your whole well being.

I recall losing 2 stones many years ago which sent my blood pressure sky high and consequently had to start taking BP lowering drug ....

Hope you get sorted soon.

I would go to A&E - otherwise call 111 and they’ll send an ambulance, or try to! Better if you can get someone to take you. I understand how disappointing it must be but this could be a one off brought on by something else going on in your body ❤️‍🩹

In my case, I’ve been told to take a 1.25mg bisoprolol tablet and wait for it to work. The idea of sitting in A&E puts me off that route but it really isn’t an easy thing to do as the tablet takes a good hour to do anything. My experience of hospital is that all they will do is monitor you fora few hours after giving 5mg bisoprolol. Of course, if the monitor showed other cardiac issues, then that would be different.

I can’t take a higher dose easily at home as I tend to get a low heart rate a day or so later.

The last time this happened my pulse went to 180 bpm but was generally 150bpm, soon dropping to 90-120.

I would ask tor GP for specific advice done he or she knows your heart test results and your history. Mine is wonderful and helpful.
