Metformin and A fib
Thanks for posting. Also heard good things about that drug. If my blood sugar stays borderline, may just ask my doc for a trial on it. Maybe anyway!

Fascinating, thanks for sharing. I’m not diabetic but I was taking metformin for its anti-aging properties. I had stopped it last Feb (2022) to get into a clinical trial for a knee issue, and I actually got AFIB in March of 2022. Really strange.
coincidence you say about Metformin. I had an echo last December and quite a few things of worry showed up. Then I received a letter from cardiologist advising my GP to start me on a form of diabetes drug as it was found during tests and trials that as a side effect to diabetes it also helped the heart
I can’t remember the name of the one he suggested but I looked up Metformin but that particular one wasn’t recommended it was another from the same family. Think it began with J
The trouble is it did say thst it could cause urinary tract infections!!!!!
Worth looking up
A lot of non-anti-arrhythmic medications and even supplements are helpful against AFib, but efficacies are at most in the 80% range, never 100%, so arrhythmic events do occur.
Besides metformin, the SGLT2i’s are antidiabetic drugs that are amazingly cardio- and renoprotective and also have impressive anti-arrhythmic impact. They work in part by inducing glycosuria and thus may pose a risk for UTI’s. Examples are empa- and dapaglifozin.
Good, a drug that is good for your kidneys as well as your heart. Most heart medication is bad for your kidneys.
l have chronic kidney disease probably caused by the heart medication.
