I started on Aspirin in 2009 at the age of 66 and remained on Aspirin until I had a hip replacement in 2020 when my GP said I needed to move on to Edoxaban which due to the sweating during the night my GP put me on Apixaban in March of this year, still sweating profusely but there doesn’t appear to be much else by way of anticoagulants. I have asked my GP to refer me to an EP, but she refused. I want to know more in dept stuff regarding AF. I am quite lucky as I rarely feel I have AF. I have been going to the gym three times a week for years now so I can’t really moan but I feel I need to find out more.

Apixaban seems to be the anticoagulant with the least side effects but you have been lucky so far as aspirin was an inadequate protective to say the least!

many thanks, I think you are right I was lucky with aspirin, albeit there were no side effects, way back in 2009 when I found out about anticoagulants I asked the cardiologist about ablation, he gave me a weird look and said “You will never get anyone to do that” how times have changed.

If you have been in AF for a long time and don’t have debilitating symptoms then probably your GP wouldn’t think an EP visit is necessary as it may be too late to change anything. If you still feel you’d like an appointment then you could see an EP privately. Well done on the gym workouts, it seems staying as fit as possible without overtraining helps greatly with symptoms ❤️‍🩹
