nebivolol and urticaria
Been in it for ages and never heard of this side effect. Nebivolol is very cardiac specific so has fewer side effects compared to bisoprolol or similar beta blockers. caveat. We are all different!
hi since I’ve been taking nebivolol I’ve started with utiicara in my hands and feet when I get warm .I don’t know for sure if it’s the cause as I’m on a lot of meds but I do suspect it’s involved .
OH BOY YES!! We went through hell with my mother... it started in small places then progressed after 2months it was all over her back, in her scalp, on her chest... just awful! Sleepless nights and a GP filling in for our regular doc who wouldn't diagnose it. Even the cardiologist was doubtful when I suggested the Nebivolol. We were able to finally see our usual GP and a blood test showed the markers consistent with adverse drug reaction. As well we had a biopsy and it too showed the allergic reaction. It could only be the Neb. After 3 days of stopping the Neb my mother was finally able to sleep. Still the itch returned when she became too hot. But nowhere near the suffering we went through on the Neb. After many weeks of experimenting with other BB we came to the conclusion that any BBlocker is going to trigger the rash so mum is now on CCB - she is also now in persistent AF. We think the immune system was affected in such a way that now any BB is going to cause this reaction and even now when she heats up or the circulation is raised she will itch like crazy in some places. The head is the worst especially at night. It is a rare side effect as listed but certainly I can atest its reality!!
Nothing helped by the way - we had antihistamines, steroids and steroid creams... everything just made her feel lousy but still an awful itch. I do hope you can find a solution!
best wishes!
I started with urticaria seven weeks after talking Bisoprolol, another beta blocker. My GPs found medical research which showed that all beta blockers can cause urticaria. So I was taken off beta blockers. As well as urticaria they caused intolerance of some foods, especially citrus, as well as bananas, grapes and tomatoes. I still take daily antihistamines five years after stopping the beta blocker. I can now tolerate grapes, but tomatoes still cause urticaria.
Very interesting! I was on Nebivolol years ago when it was still under patent called Bystolic. Was the only beta blocker that work for me and only at 5 mg. When the patent expired, the generics reformulated it with Corn fillers. I had to stop taking it as I am allergic to corn = the mad itch comes first then the rash if I'm on it long term. Had to have my Dr write a letter to my insurance to approve me being on the very expensive Inderal, the only one currently with no corn fillers. It's a pain to have to have my healthcare dictated by the cheap fillersbig pharma uses so they can make the almighty dollar. Sigh.
