Haematoma after Pace & Ablate

It's now 5 months since I've had this done and I have still got a lump in my groin where they put the catheter in. Anyone know how long it takes to be absorbed?

I had a haematoma after one of my ablations. I really can't remember how long it took to be absorbed, would guess a couple of weeks to a month, but certainly no longer than that. I guess it would depend on the size, with mine I was convinced that a tube had been left inside me (that's what it felt like and was very hard to the touch), went to doc who said ok, then later went to A&E and told it was quite normal. I had never seen a haematoma mentioned on this site before, so had no idea what it was.

Why don't you call the AF nurses on this site for a chat and see what they say, or better still see your GP.

GP had a look and feel of it and said oh yes , somewhat gleefully, its a haematoma and will take months to go away! I just wondered if anyone else had had this experience and how many months?

Well yes, I had a haematoma. Mine was hard to the touch, that's what made me think a tube had been left behind. Is yours still as lumpy and not gone down at all 5 months later?

Mine is egg shaped and smooth and yes it has gone slightly smaller ans softer.

So it will go away? My ablation was only 12 days ago and I seem to have a hematoma at one of the three sites. The nurse at discharge told me to tell them if I had a hematoma and I've been led to believe that it's not a good thing (thanks a lot, Google). They may be acting out of an abundance of caution, so I'm wondering if it's a big deal or not. It doesn't hurt, it's not huge, and I had a huge bruise around it. Your doctors say it WILL go away?

To be safe, report to whoever did the procedure. They may want to an ultrasound and see what exactly is going on.

Will do. Thanks

Would do if only I could contact them instead of an automated voice!

About three weeks for me. Catheters in both groins gave me some dramatic-looking but not painful bruising. Best wishes.

When wife fell over the haematoma on her shin lasted months. GP was not concerned and it eventually got absorbed.

I had the same after my pace and ablate. I did call the cath lab and they told me to put pressure on it and if it didnt go within a few weeks ti call again. Think mine took around 5 weeks to go down completely. I'd call the cath lab and ask for advice.Other than that, how are you doing?

It has been amazing now everything has settled down and wonderful to be free of painful AF after all these years.

Ditto. Such a relief. Glad it's been successful for you too. What did you get yours set at after the 6 weeks? They put me down from 80 to 60 but I didnt feel good, so I went back and set at 70 now.

They set mine at 60 but variable down to 50 when sleeping and 130 high but no higher. I only experienced AF mildly once after the PM was put in last August 3 days after it was inserted. Since the ablation in Sept. not at all although I am aware of my atria doing a dance now and then but only symptoms then are feeling tired and a bit short of breath. 😉
