has anyone (probably female) noticed any hair loss with edoxaban? I changed to this from warfarin about a year ago and seem to be losing hair from the top of my head.

I’m on apixaban and have noticed hair loss, to the extent that I had it cut short as it looked scraggy

Hi Judeth.

Hair loss is not a common side effect of Edoxaban as far as I'm aware (I could be wrong). However, it is possible for certain medications to cause hair loss as a side effect. If your hair loss began when you first started taking it there might be a connection. Talk to your doctor about a change of medication if that is the case.

I have no idea which medication is causing it. I was also told that even anesthesia can cause problems but yes I have definitely been losing hair. My hairdresser told me about the anesthesia as I have had several procedures. It almost looks as if I had my hair layered, but I never did, and just a year ago I had great thick hair. No tangles and when I brush it it looks like my cat got stuck in my brush. Since April I have been off and on and changed with meds so I don’t know what to blame.

I have had all of the DOAC’s and also Warfarin. In my case all cause hair loss. I have other problems with them and have settled, for now, on Dabigatran. This seems to be the worst for hair loss.

Not everybody has this problem with them, just the unlucky few. I have to keep telling myself that hair loss is better than a stroke.

Just to add to the thread. Mrsvemb said Dabigatran was a problem causing her some hair loss. I've never had a problem with it but did with Flecainide. Since I was taken off it I am now back to a full head of hair and look more handsome than ever - I wish 😂

Just show how meds affect all of us differently though.

Yes. On Rivaroxaban. Hair always thinnish but thicker on back of head, this is now a lot thinner since starting medication. Taken a course of Viviscal which I think has helped marginally. Now using K18 topical hair product which has definitely given my hair a better structure but it is not a hair loss or thickening product. Ageing may also be a factor in thinning and 'wispy' hair as now 76. Been on Rivaroxaban (Xarelto) for about two years. Had blood tests done which ruled out other reasons for hair loss. Hi - I’ve been on Edoxaban for a couple of years. After about a year I noticed more hair drop than usual (in my brush; after washing; in my vac brushes!! ) I have very fine hair but lots of it! I mentioned it to my hairdresser as the salon is very hot on hair health. She examined my scalp under high magnification and said that there was no patchiness, it was healthy and had signs of growth. She then went on to explain that hair goes through cycles of shedding, inactivity and growth, but agreed that medication could affect this.

Many people advise massage with Rosemary oil so I bought some. However I didn’t get round to using it as I didn’t fancy smelling like the Sunday roast! At Xmas I included one of those funny metal scalp massagers in my daughter’s Xmas Stocking. It came in a pack of 2 from Amazon so I started using the other one in the morning and at night. Last week my hairdresser laughed and said I had loads of hair regrowth as it was sticking out all over the place. Perhaps I’m now in the growing phase or perhaps the daily massage has helped?

After three years on Xeralto (Rivaroxaban) I noticed I had lost all my pubic and underarm hair and had a loss of some hair (specifically on the top) on my head. I stopped taking it (went off the only anti-coagulant I was on) for 2 months, a decision I made independently and my hair in those areas started growing back. After the two months and becoming convinced that the increased risk of stroke with afib was real (I have some skepticism l regarding pharmaceutical companies) I started taking Eliquis (Apixaban). My hair may be growing slower than it would otherwise but thus far, three months after starting on Eliquis, I don't believe I'm losing any. It can be hard to know for certain whether any of this is simply age related.

I was told by my doc that blood thinners contribute to increased hair loss. I take biotin supplement and has solved the problem for me. Hair back to normal. There are other reasons for hair loss however I hope this helps. Of course check for any drug interactions with this supplement before starting.

I have lost a lot of hair with Eliquis. And that seems to be a side effect with it. Ugh!

I’ve been losing handsful of my hair since changing to Riveroxaban so don’t change to that one.
