minoxidil causes heart palpitations!
Hi CCW.
Minoxidil is used to treat hair loss. It is thought to work by increasing blood flow to the hair follicles. Some people may experience heart palpitations as a side effect of taking minoxidil. However, this is considered to be a very rare side effect and is not commonly reported.
I suggest speaking to your pharmacist to see if it's the root cause (pun intended).

To be on the safer side - if you need to use Minoxidil I’d choose the 5% solution rather than the 10% one that some hair clinics offer.
Minoxidil was originally developed as an antihypertensive agent. With systemic absorption, it acts as a direct arterial vasodilator, and as such will trigger reflex activation of the sympathetic nervous and renin‐angiotensinaldosterone systems, manifested, in part, by tachycardia and/or palpitations. With oral use in the past, concurrent beta-blockade to mitigate those side effects had been indicated. I would concur with using a significantly lower topical dose to limit systemic effects.
