Because Bisoperol gave me really bad side effects I have been switched to Verapamil. I took my first dose last night but forgot my Flecainide and woke up in normal rhythm this morning for the first time in over a month.
Out of curiosity, I've not taken my morning Flecainide dose today and remained in normal rhythm all day.
One swallow and all that but whilst I continue with my little experiment, I wonder if anyone here has experience of using Verapamil on its own to manage Afib.

I'd been taking Flecainide morning and night for years, but when my cardiologist looked at the results of an ECG, he said to stop it right away as it was causing more problems than helping my heart rate. I'm now just taking Bisoprolol and feeling really well, better than I have for years. So I'm not surprised of the effect it was probably having on you too, time will tell. Please let us know how you progress.
Thanks, Jean. Flecainide had been great for me in the past but hasn't been so effective lately so the cardiac nurse increased my dose with little to no effect, except maybe more flutter! Just heading to the gym for my normal cardiac session - all wired upto my hear rate monitor - so let's see how that goes.
When I last saw my EP which was about 5 years ago, for the after my 3rd ablation check up - he said to me, "Above all try to reduce your dose of Flecainide". At the time it was 2 x 100mg. I got the impression that he wasn't keen on it either.
I’m too lazy to look it up but I think that’s a calcium channel blocker? I just take Diltiazem and a BP med (Candesartan) and it’s generally very effective for me. I used to take Propafenone ( similar to Flecainide) but was taken off it when it began to cause problems.
I'll be interested to know how this progresses. I've been prescribed verapamil in place of bisoprolol, I posted on here last week asking for people's views. I don't have flecanide so it will be solely verapamil. However so far I've been waiting 2 months to get them, first waiting for the letter to GP, then waiting for them to read it, now the pharmacy hasn't got them in stock! Let me know how you go with them
I could not tolerate bisoprolol even at the lowest dose. Cardiologist switched to verapamil alongside my usual apixaban. Flecanide not suitable for me. Been on verapamil since April 22. First few months had minor AFib attacks. Few months ago started to have more severe, longer lasting attacks, some of which put me in a+e. Been in NSR for the past five weeks which is a miracle for me due to being prescribed a homeopathic medicine for AFib by a certified homeopathic practitioner who is also a NHS GP. This wonderful doctor said that I would be possible to stop taking verapamil but not the apixaban. Yippee...only time will tell how I progress. Hope this hepls.
