Should I switch from Riveroxaban to Apixaban?

I'm a 64 yr old male and have paroxysmal AF. 3 years ago my cardiologist put me on Riveroxaban as well as Flecainide.I have not had any issues with Riveroxaban but seeing all the comments,I was wondering whether I should switch to Apixaban given that it is better for gastric bleeding.

Only you can decide. I prefer Apixaban, been on it for about 6 years now with no affects. It is x2bd rather than x1 so you do need to consider ensuring you take roughly 12 hours apart but you don’t need to consider taking with food.

I was on rivaroxabsn but I kept getting UTIs with it so was changed to apixaban as it was supposed to be kinder to gastric and brain (I had had brain tumour surgery)

Have had no problems with it (touch wood) and been on it now since 2018

Stick with what works for you. The only negative I have with riveroxaban is price. But it’s likely to come down now that it’s patent has run out.

I have been on Apixan for at least six years, no problems at all.

Started on Apixaban in 2014 and no problems except occasionally forgetting the evening pill. Changed to Rivaroxaban in 2020 as only one a day and shouldn't forget. Within a few months I had haematoria for 5 days (blood in urine) with no obvious cause. GP agreed that best to go back on Apixaban.Have had an LAAO this year so no longer on Anticoagulant.

You would be best to discuss this with your Cardiologist. At the moment Edoxaban is the first choice of anticoagulants recommended in England.

However I was recently recommended Apixaban because I have previously suffered unexplained subdural haematomas.

You might need medical reasons that would allow such a switch of anticoagulants, but the patient needs to agree with the final choice of any medications taken.

Been on Apixaban for nine months and had no problems. I cannot comment on symptoms was I do not have any.
