travel after ablations

Thank you all for your responses to my previous posting about treatment fatigue, my new favourite phrase!!

My second radio frequency ablation is booked for 15th December and we are booked to visit our son in Berlin for the weekend of the 2nd December, 16 days later. The pre-op nurse said that would be fine and the information leaflet from the hospital say resume normal activity except lifting after a few days, 2 weeks if your work is more manual. I know from my first ablation that the first couple of weeks were not the doddle that the hospital predicted but I think by 2 weeks i was pretty good. I have read the incredibly helpful AFA leaflet but I would really like people’s experiences and would you have been able to manage the flight and weekend etc. My husband will do all the carrying, bless him, and we have decided I will rest in our hotel room every afternoon and I am keen to go but also want to be sensible.

From my experience of 4 ablations I would say go ahead with your plans. You have obviously thought it all out and hsve a sensible plan. Stay well hydrated at all times!

Good luck with your ablation !

If you read the fact sheet then you know as much as I do (I compiled it) so it becomes your personal decision. My advice would be to go BUT make sure you follow the following guidelines.

1 Stay well hydrated at all times.

2. Make sure that you give yourself plenty of time for the journey especially if you are flying. Last minute panics are a very bad thing so allow plenty of spare time to avoid stress.

3 Don't drink any alcohol or strong coffee

4 Make sure that you take plenty of your medication in your haqnd luggage.

5 Enjoy,

Hello. You can arrange assistance at the airports which will make your life less stressful. Contact your travel agent if you have booked a package or the airline if you haven't.

Follow everyone else's suggestions and have a good time.

It will be lovely for you to see your Son. X

thank you, we walked 10.6km yesterday, a beautiful walk along the seafront fron Sandgate (near Folkstone) to Hythe) and back, I will just take it slowly at the airport. I am so glad that you don’t all think I am bonkers going.

Bonkers? Never. It will be such a mental boost for you. I have my holiday booked for next April and just hope I survive long enough to go!
