Should I be worried

In June this year I had a second ablation which after a few blips was successful. Three weeks ago I had covid, a very mild dose with just a runny nose and a slight cough. Ten days ago back in afib. Fortunately I had an existing appointment with cardiologist last Tuesday. My BP was 103/66 and pulse 103. He put me on 5mg betablockers night and morning and 200mg amiodarone night and morning and to halve losartan dose to 50mg at night. Five days later nothing has changed and I feel exhausted and defeated. How long do these drugs take to kick in and am I making a fuss ?

Just my opinion, I wouldn't have been pleased to have been put on that strength of Bisoprolol at your heart rate and BP. What are your rates now?

Re Amiodarone, that drug damaged my thyroid and I'll now have to take medicine for life to correct that. I've also recently discovered that my lungs are scarred which is listed as another side effect.

The extra betablockers and a short burst of amiodarone was supposed to calm my heart down and hopefully bring it back into sinus. I am concerned that my heart rate is still 103 and BP so low after this dose.

That's really odd that those two drugs haven't reduced your heart rate at all. I would ring your cardiologist's secretary and ask her to let him know. Just ring hospital switchboard and ask for her.

Thanks I will give it a few more days as Bob suggests. It will also reassure me to have cardiologist opinion

To be honest I think you need to give things more time. I'm three and a half weeks post first covid positive test, still have the cough and still very aware I am below par. A rate of 103 is only just above the top of average (60 to 100) so plenty of time for things to settle.

Thank you Bob. My normal resting heart rate is 65/70. I was concerned that the double dose of betablockers has done nothing to reduce it. However it may take more time.

Jpots opinion is valid to him and that’s what counts, why does it need to be reported? We are all adults on here, his post doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

I am the one he replied to and it bothers me!

Is it too difficult to simply disagree with his post?

The treatment sounds dreadful. I find beta blockers drop my blood pressure too much and make me feel really ill and low in mood. Sorry that your ablation didn't work.

That's real strong statement you make Jpot, I'm not saying you are wrong perhaps in the fullness of time we'll know! Stay well, Tom
